I'd go for the Elite if I was desperate for a pole.  They get a good review.

I've been using the 25ft Elite for a few weeks now and have got to say that it's a fantastic pole to work with, VERY light and takes a lot of the physical effort out of a full days work, they are expensive but worth every penny, which I have no regrets spending at all.

the 30ft elite is only £70 cheaper than 30ft slx so i would go for the slx. not cheap enough to tempt me away from what i know

If I needed a carbon fibre pole in a hurry and the SLX I wanted wasn't in stock, then the £70 cheaper price tag for the Elite would just be a bonus, and I'd get the Elite.

The difference is actually only £42 +VAT  :)

If I change the quality of components and manufacturing standards then I would be able to reduce the price.  Until the SL-X came along carbon poles were considered the province of the well off window cleaner or those that had to do high level work.  Current prices for the SL-X are actually a lot less than they were four years ago.  Let me talk to the staff about reducing their wages and I'll get back to you...........  ;D

What is the reason for the wait for the slx anyway ?  I am not being sarcastic I just wondered why there is none in stock ?

Carbon fibre will be old hat in a few years; just wait till graphene gets off the ground:

It is a question that a lot of clients are asking!

With the carbon fibre poles we produce they have to be booked into production runs about 3 months in advance of receiving them at our warehouse. With the massive increase in demand for these poles we have seen this year, this left us out of stock by about April of some key sizes. What this then creates is a backlog of clients wanting them so we make a pre-order list. This then means that when the current batch comes, say the batch that has come in this week which were ordered in March'11, some of the sizes are already pre-sold. The good news is that we placed a very large order in April'11 which will be with us by July and this will mean that we should be ahead of the game on all sizes.

It is very difficult to predict 3 months in advance exactly what the demand will be and for what sizes in particular.

The SLX would be my first choice,.. but if you just can't wait, at least get the carbon gooseneck & extreme brush from gardiners to go on top of the Elite,..

I think it depends on how long you expect the pole to last for.  My first slx is now 3 years old and still going strong, at the time it was the lightest most rigid tele.  If I had a functional pole and could wait for the slx and I expect it to last several years, then waiting makes sense. If you think a pole is only a 6 month investment then waiting 2 or 3 months makes little sense.  In fact I wouldn't buy an slx now I'd only buy the extreme well worthy the money.

Nat Jones did write a really good comparison between the 2.

The SLX is a good pole and it's right to say that before it carbon
Poles were much more expensive. But having used both I feel the elite is a better
Pole.

Could you explain why?

the SLX is a great pole despite falling to bits after 2week  ;D

6months on and 8 reels of tape later its still doing its job well  8)

My SLX25 is now 2 years old - used every working day and still has all the original clamps and has been 100% trouble free.

I think you have been unlucky Dave but using tape as a repair is perhaps not the best idea - especially as you seem to have got through 8 reels!!   I believe the suggested repair method if required is the use of a good two part epoxy resin.

Gardiners supply a good one and I'm sure they would be happy to advise you.

Cheers
John

Clamps easier to use. No adjustment needed.

Seeing as you have both poles, can you do us a favour and take a picture of the poles next to each other focusing on the clamps. I'm interested in comparing the sizes.

I thought the elite had an adjustment tool a bit like the tucker tool of old or the Allen key for the mk1 slx, IMO a thumb adjustment is better.

Yeah, I would also be interested to see both together. Could you do it Thermo?

Not a great pic,.. but you get the idea. Elite clamps are adjustable with an alen key,.. and in the 2 weeks I used the Elite I did need to adjust the clams a little,.. the SLX doesn't seem to need more adjustment though.

Thank you very much Nat well done.

I think that over a long pole the clamps would really make a difference, you would have a lot of pole wastage in comparison, but maybe not a massive issue on a 4 section pole.

Sorry should have said been using the 25ft Xtreme not the Elite!  :o

We also use the SLX 30 which is a great pole to work with and have had a good few years use out of them so very happy with the purchase.

That said the Xtreme is a lot kinder on the arms and you will definatly notice a lot less fatigue by the end of the working week, I'm very pleased with the Xtreme pole and will be replacing the SLX poles with them when the time comes.
