My 20" carbon/sediment filter housing has fallen over and the threaded bit the hose connects to has snapped. Will I be ok to purify water with the remaining filters? Just need to fill the van for work tomorrow.

the carbon filter removed the chlorine from the water and this can damage the RO, so i would say no.
-
if its just once it shouldent hurt to much!! havent change mine for 18 months still all ok ??? ::)

I agree. RO's chlorine tolerance is rated at zero.

yes

I said carbon filter only to Rich because any pieces of dirt etc will ruin the membrane whereas the small amount of chlorine in our water would be tolerated in short supply. Hes not purifying his swimming pool ;D

Although you may get away with it just the once, it is a risk that the membrane(s) could get damaged. My answer would be that if you really must purify some more water before replacing the pre-filter, use resin only. Expensive but if it's only for one tankful then it shouldn't break the bank.
As for not changing the pre-filters in 18 months, I really don't know how Richard01903 has got away with that.

His tds is in his user name though.

You may suffer from some 'flux decline' but dont worry about it matey.... i guess you will have a full tank by now ;D
Alot of 'jack of all trades' on here to help you out ???

WTF is "flux decline" ? If he doesn't know if he's ok with filters or not what do you reckon his chances are of understanding that?

IMO its one of the basics anyone who is using r/o water commercially should know about!! ;D

He probably knew that a thin film membrane can handle 1000ppm per hour of chlorine then. A fundamental basic of any window cleaners knowledge :)
-
He may be using a pre charged foul resistant membrane tho that hasnt had a chlorine charge???? ;D possible :)

He lives 100yds up the road from me and i know for a fact that he isn't ;)
