So long as your address isnt on the leaflet dont worry !
Also dont post any leaflets on my patch

Ive had loads of threats from leaflet dropping theyre obviously worried as they do a pants job just keep going and report any sinister threats to police and certainly any verbal/physical abuse
Or just give em a hiding

Richard don't worry about it,
I got sick of the nice approach with these guys when I first started out, and quite quickly started telling them exactly where I was and if they had a problem come and see me face to face instead of hiding behind withheld numbers................. surprise surprise I've never had anyone turn up!
-
Yep stick his number on here and we will all phone him
-
Yeh, what's his number, Richard? Or did he hide it?
-
didnt hide his number... usually it wouldnt bother me but expecting our first baby soon, dont need trouble.

If he didn't hide it take it down to police and report it
-
Put his number up and I'm sure he'll get at least 20 calls this evening...
-
I would definitely not let it put you off.
You are as free as he is to look for customers as you see fit. If he does a good job, his customers will stick with him and he will have nothing to worry about. He's probably just mouthing off 'cos he does a lousy job, and this is about to be exposed by you doing a good job!
Stick with it, guys like him are full of wind and wee wee!
John.
-
I wouldn't worry, Richard. We were threatened early on - big style - face-to-face; two of 'em, and we got the police involved. If you've this guys number, contact the police and let them know; it's important that you do, just in case something else happens; which I doubt it will.
I would say just put it behind you, worrying about it doesn't help, and carry on with what you're doing.
You're obviously doing something right for this gimp to be worried himself.
You will find the vast majority of window cleaners to be nice, friendly types, and the toss pots who aren't generally don't last long. That's been my experience. In my area, despite the odd spat, all the window cleaners get on with each other, and I remember as 'the new guy' getting help and encouragement from other window cleaners.

gracie jiu jitsu for self defense all the way bro
What a surprising response from you.
-
this is all new to me, wife is stressed now!!!!

dont worry about it, ive had it twice, 1st time, i went and confronted him, he shat himself saying he was having a bad day.
2nd one the same, we ended up having a scuffle in the street, now we just dont talk, and he threatened every thing to me, talk really is cheap ;D
-
get his number posted you wimp ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Hi Richard, my e-mail addy is on my profile. just send his number and some of us will solve your little problem.
Most of us have had something like this at some point. dead easy to sort out without any violence.
-
If you don't mind saying richard what area is it, i have some work round alderley and wilmslow and cheadle so know some cleaners
If it was an area that is affluent , they get very protective!! But i really doubt anything will transpire they don't know who you are etc its just a cheap trick

I had this happen to me when I started my first part time round, except I got a knock at the door.. I opened the door and this chap says 'are you the window cleaner?' I says 'yes' thinking he was a new customer, next thing I know he's thrown a right hand straight at me!! Luckily I was well into my boxing at the time and instinctively ducked it and pushed him off my doorstep and shut the door, he stood outside my house shouting abuse for about 10 minutes!! I just ignored him and laughed it off, but a few days later I was working at a house when I heard a screech of brakes and a door slam, looked round and this guy was running toward me, he jumped over the garden fence, kicked my bucket over whilst shouting abuse and started throwing wild punches at me!! I danced around the garden like Sugar Ray Leonard.. ducking and diving, and staying just out of his range! I didn't really want to hit him as he looked quite old to me then, but was probably only in his early forties, but in the end I thought enough is enough and I threw a lightening fast jab onto the end of his nose.. stopped him in his tracks and he just turned around and ran back to his van, he did shout a bit more abuse before he drove off, but never had any trouble from him again!! ;D
Post his number on here and let everyone from the forum phone him, he will probably poo himself!! Don't worry though, most are all mouth and no trousers!!
-
make sure you have somebody at bottom of ladder there was a case in bolton were a window cleaner had his ladder kicked from undeneath him and broke his arm,but dornt worry the police caught him and sent him to court were he got fined £50 and £25 court cost and £25 victim surcharge, that should teach him
FROM PUTTING FLYERS IN AND NICKING OTHER WINDOW CLEANERS WORK ;D
-
Bumper, I know you've been on here from year dot, and you're not a bad bloke, but what are you on about? It's normal to get threatened? Don't worry, if he breaks your arm, he will get a 75 quid fine? Or are you saying Richard is stealing other guys work?
-

I think if this prat actually meant business he would have called you out pretending to be a customer and given you a hiding.I wouldn't worry too much about a just a phonecall.Must be disconcerting though,I work alone and wouldn't like the threat of somebody turning up looking for trouble either. It's one thing having a face to face punch up but if you're up a ladder all day long you have enough to think about without being concerned about some nutjob booting it away.Sure,99 times out of 100 it's idle threats but I've known people mental enough to do such a thing.I would inform the old bill personally, especially if,as you say,you have family to worry about.
-
I had problems with someone on my patch earlier this year, Cozy sent the bloke round thats on his AV

no he is just taking the mick,
Richard , honestly just report it to the old bill they will be all over him like a rash,
i know what its like up north people get very protective about rounds its where i started out.
but look alot of it is mouth i know this cos it happened to me and my old partner
had a phone call with death threats lol!!... im gona kill you , smash your faces in im gona do this do that..
i told my partner at the time to just hang up and say something like ok , we dont need this goodbye cos i certainly didnt wana go to jail for fightin over glass.
instead my partner responded with the same abuse he gave him told him where he will be working etc, i had a right go at him .but he said its just all mouth.
he was right , last i heard the very same windy removed his old fridge and said something like sorry bad day.

Ive never met any of the ones who have rang up threatening although i always offer to meet up in person for a brew , they usually respond negatively
shame ;D

You've no way of knowing if he's all talk or if he is likeley to cause you problems. So i'd treat him like he will cause you problems. Just be diplomatic but firm. Explain that if you have canvassed his area that you didn't know he was there and you in no way tried to take 'his business'. Also explain that whilst you now know he's in the area that you won't activley target it, but seeing as you are a cleaner the same as him you will not turn any work offered to you down. You do have to humour these guys to a certain extent no matter what the internet warriors say, and after all you need to be able to confidently work the area without fear of problems.

I thought he looked pretty handy boxing. Though when i read he shoved him out and closed the door i couldn't work that out. I'd of kicked his ass up the street and i can't box !!! Either that or i'd be looking at the sky !!!!
-
It is true he kicked him off his ladder

It is true he kicked him off his ladder
I believe you, but do you think it's OK to behave like that? Is it justified?

I was a pretty good boxer in my time Tom, (check out my vids below) an open class amateur with over 40 bouts!! I still box today as a semi pro, I make a few quid.. but I do it mainly because I enjoy it, and its the only way I can motivate myself to get in shape!! :)

I can't see a bloke like that listening to reason personally. Can't hurt to try though. The more I think about it the more he just sounds like a telephone tough guy.If he was 'tasty'he would have found a way to meet you in person and tried to give you a hiding.Could be an idea to front him out and say ok let's meet up and have it out.If he doesn't show then you know he's all mouth and if he does then at least you'd have the measure of the guy.Think I'd prefer that to looking over my shoulder all the time while at work.

YOu have to remember with some of these guys, they are quite neanderthal. Someone comes in their area and they only know one option and that is to confront and try and protect what they see is theirs. Usually speaking to them sorts the problem out, trying to meet aggression with aggression only leads to one route. Glad you got it sorted.

maybe he is on here.... :D :D :D
Thats what I thought, he maybe read this and thought oh oh, best phone back and back down

I probably should have decked him on the doorstep Mike, but he seemed so old too me at the time, I was about 25 and he was in his forties.. I didn't want to hit an old man I guess!! Now I'm forty something.. does that mean 25 year olds think I'm old? ??? I hope not ;D

Reminds of that Benny Hill song about Ernie - the fastest milkman in the West.
I suppose you could always go back to back, each do 10 paces, turn, and draw your squeegees from a belt bucket. No scrapers allowed though as someone might get hurt.
