just booked the travelodge at kettering for friday 16th sept (ncca familly day) for £19, ( a familly room) its a mile from the venue and i believe very close to the town centre just making the info available in case anyone does not fancy camping, book early for cheap rate.
also i know there are some people on here who are local so might be good if anyone fancies a meal or drink on the friday in kettering be good to put faces to names.

be good to put faces to names.
I've met a lot of them and believe me it really isn't ;D

Travelodge is very close, yes. It's grouped in with a BP service station & little chef on the side of the A14 dual carriageway (usual kind of setup). You will need to drive from the hotel to the venue though, as you're marooned on the side of a busy dual carriageway, there is no pedestrian access to it. Will be more than a mile to wicksteed park though as you have to drive almost a mile in the wrong direction to turn round, drive back past where you came from and then turn off towards the venue!
It'll be fine though, as good a place to stay as any really, no probs :)
For anyone else's information the only other two real contenders are Premier Inn (just a couple of miles further away on the A14) or Holiday Inn which is yet another couple of miles around the ring road - it's slap bang on the opposite side of town from Wicksteed Park but Kettering isn't a big town!
Whichever hotels you use you're no more than 5-10 minutes away by car.
There are a few smaller B&B type hotels nearer in town to the venue, couldn't tell you what they're like as I have never needed to get a hotel room in my home town as yet!!
I'd avoid the Royal, The George and The Market Inn as they are all in the town centre and noise/parking will be a nightmare. Not sure if a couple of those are still open, they all seem to be changing hands and opening/closing all the time.
Kettering Park Hotel is fooooookin expensive, you'll have a lovely stay there but not exactly budget accommodation. Probably the closest hotel to Wicksteed park actually, thinking about it!

thanks for the info jim, i am thinking a taxi would not be too expensive into kettering ? i will have my wife with me so will be looking for somewhere to have a meal and maybe a quiet drink.
i know the travelodge site as i worked on the garage when it was having a refurb a few years back.

Creighton - taxi shouldn't set you back too much, it isn't a long journey. Just a bit frustrating that the meter will be up to several pounds as you drive back past where you set off from on the other side of the dual carriageway!! :D Probably £6 - £8 worth of taxi fare in day hours, will be more at night obviously. (KLM taxis 01536 41818)
There's plenty of those generic style chain pubs around - the Parkhouse is on the way to/from wicksteed park for you, probably the easiest. Just over the road from there is a Nando's, Pizza Hut and if you're feeling really flush McDonalds too! Also just there you're a short walk from an Indian restaurant called Mazza (pictures of their carpets posted on here a while ago!), the Odeon cinema and a KFC.
At A14 junction 8 (jst along from your hotel) there's a pub called the Trading Post which is probably the best all-round for relaxed drink/decent meal (not gourmet just good quality pub menu). Just next to that is a brilliant little Thai restaurant called Tong Thai, a chip shop and a chinese takeaway! Definitely recommend Tong Thai then the pub next door for a nice evening with the missus, as long as you're not expecting too many exciting things to happen, this is Kettering!
Next along the road (junc 7) is a Brewsters (next to Premier Inn). Wouldn't make a special journey there either for food or "ambiance" personally!
Further round on the north edge of town round the northern bypass is a Harvester pub next door to the Holiday Inn.
I wouldn't bother heading to the town centre for a quiet drink in the evening. There's either the usual music bars or old men pubs.

First one is town centre, other two are drive-throughs!
Real men drink proper coffee, couldnt tell you what a latte costs!!!
-
its about finding a balance,
A) i drink latte's..........= marginally gay
B) i don't use a glide.........=beefcake
A+B= alpha male. ;D
well, thats my excuse anyhoo.

I'm looking forward to this actually, would be good to have a knees-up with some of the guys off the message boards. The "real life" events I've been to are always interesting, you get an idea of someone in your head from off the forums and many turn out to be quite different!
Question is... who fancies organising it :-X :-X
-
What about a "bash" here in sunny Cornwall ???? ;D
-
jim your in situ and know the area so guess who gets my vote ? just have to decide if its friday or saturday night
