Just called the shop where i brought my powrflite from as one as one of the vacs has gone.He says its still under warrenty but if water has got in the vac then warrenty is cancelled,I will have to pay £80 courier and £200 for a new vac to be fitted.
Now im pretty sure no water has got in there but will have no way of proving this once he gets his hands on it.
Just wondering if its worth the hastle or to just get a new vac and fit it myself.
His attitude stunk."cant be bothered arguing with customers"was one of his lines.
Cheers lads.Ben
-
his attitude does stink a bit but you can't blame him if he's forever having to deal with this problem. customer breaks it. he fixes it and says customer has broke it. customer denies and they fight it over. next customer same thing etc.
could you not take it to somewhere else which does the same sort of thing?
-
water will very rarely go through a motor, what will go through is' saturated' or 'dirty air' this carries some moisture which will mark the inlet port of the vac motor. so they will say..... "see that shows water has gone through the vac so your warranty is void"
they need to realise that the air is being suck out off a tank full of water, so the air will have some wetness in it..... this in its self can cause staining

Hi gcs,
Bad Attitude alright, has he not heard custy always right!!
Anyway that sounds outrageous price for vac and fitting do yourself a favour and get one from eBay and fit it yourself. I have the powerflite Pfx1350 it's very easy, and I'm not great at those kind of things, just take your time and it'll be no bother, also remember that's not the only vac that's gonna go, and it would get kindly costly getting it replaced by someone else especially when it's a job you could do yourself.
Hard enough earning it without blowing it ;D
-
I didn't realise Ashby's sold Powerflites.
If it was Matt at Cleansmart, I would trust him. £200 though is taking the urine.
-
Think you should try and find a local independant engeneer loclaly to you who will do the job for you and replace it ben..
Where was it from mate?name n shame ;D No super injunctions mind :D

Takes me about 20 mins to replace a vac motor in my Prochem, although I have had a lot of practice.
As said get one off e bay, just got a genuine Lamb / Amtec 1500 watt motor off the bay for £100,inc post.
3 wires 3 nuts,job done

Cheers lads,he says the motors are £160 plus the vat.The only thing stopping me changing it myself is the fact its still under warrenty. He says the water can get in whilst filling ect but im dam carefull with things like that.Iv had a real good look around inside and everything is bone dry.No sign of so much as a drop of water.
It could end up i dont have to pay a penny but i seriously doubt it.
if he checks it says its waterdamaged i will have to pay the courier regardless but could still change the pump myself.
The machine was brought from the big clean now im not questioning there service or customer care yet but was a little dissapointed at his attitude :-[ cheers Ben

How long you had it then?
For water to cuase a problem within a few months you would of had to have it hissing out the exhaust.
If you have a long run on your warranty I would go with them and tell 'em your concerns. If it's nearly out, do it yourself, you will have to do it someday and it's good to get familiar with your kit for when you need it and they go on you.

was all brought new in november.Spent alot of money with them.
if i thought id got water in it i wouldnt even bother the man id just get it sorted myself but i look after my gear.

Hey Mark,
Are those motors any good? was looking at those on Ebay and though about replacing my standard 1400W motors with them.
Do you notice a difference in performance?
Russ

I would speak to them, say that you understand what he's saying but you know damn well you haven't flooded them. They would have to have some real brass neck to try it on.
Also tell them you are on here... you know the place that they advertise on and people are following this thread. ;)

Like i say im not bad mouthing anybody(yet).I know its not a massive problem but to be honest its £300 i aint got at the minute and if im not at falt i shouldnt have to pay out.Cheers lads

100 onj ebay as mark says for the Amtech ones, i would just change it mate to avoid all the hassle, it is an easy diy repair

I have bought it as a spare Russ,so won't know what it's like for a while really,I may put it in the machine, then keep the one I take out as a spare though,as I assume it will have warranty, machine was still sucking really well, even with it being shagged, assume that once the motor got spinning,it centred itself a bit ?
-
If he changes it and the pump goes does that invalidate the warranty? How long you got left on it 6 months?
-
yeh about 6 months.Iv been waiting for a call all afternoon from them to confirm a pickup time for the machine.NOTHING.
Balls to it.Ill do it myself. >:(
if anyone knows the exact model i need to get id be really greatfull .
Cheers for all the advice lads.
Ben :)

ok.. now name and shame! ;D
-
You may be right. If your pump goes he would probably just say you've got water in it. ;D

Hi .
I told Ben yesterday that we would pay the shipping of his machine and have a look at it. All I mentioned was that if it's not a warranty issue he will have to pay us back for the shipping and repairs-totally normal. If its under warranty we get the part for free and we don’t charge for labour when we do repairs so there is really no really gain for us not warrantying items when they should be.We get the part for free, he gets the part for free.
The customer wanted us to tell him that no matter what was wrong with his machine and no matter how it was dammage we were going to repair it under warranty
We do plenty of repairs under warranty but the conversation always starts the same...''if it turns out not to be a warranty issue then you will have to pay'' IT IS THE SAME IN ANY WALK OF LIFE I dont want a customer thinking he's not going to have to pay if there is a chance he or she will have to pay something- as it will cause arguements later.
As i said earlire there is no reason for us not to warranty an item as we get the part for free and we also volonteered to have the machine shipped back to us as the customer is too busy to drive it down to us.
We offer good service to ur customers indeed our shop was opened three times on Saturday and twice on Sunday for customers who needed equipment and supplies of chemicals/brushes etc .
Anyway that was me, THE BIG CLEAN in surrey.
Also I quoted 160 pounds plus Vat to replace it with a genuine vac motor -if it was not a warranty issue-thats a good price for a genuine imperial vacuum motor.
Regards
Dave

Dont wish to rub salt in ! from my experience with Cleansmart you would have a new vac now, customer service cannot be over estimated.
-
wouldn't it be quicker and easier if you shipped him a new pump free of charge and talked him through the procedure of fitting it, then get him to ship the old pump back for inspection and then charge if it is water damaged.
not that i know one iota about porties but would of kept it off the forums, at least until you'd inspected it and found (if this was the case) water damage.

Sounds fair enough if you ask me. :)

Thanks for getting back Dave.A phone call would have been nice though.I gave you my number.I dont do my business over the internet.
I come on here to get good advice from ppl in the business. Its been a massive help for me just starting out n all.
What put me off was your attitude. You seemed actualy a little annoyed when i said i wasnt happy with paying the courier. To the point where you would just cancel it because your sick of arguing with customers about the issue.Im sure you are.I used to work in retail and iv been given a lot more crap than that for a hell of a lot less money.
Moneys really tight for me a the mo.I just wanted some expert advice on whether it is worth taking the risk on sending the machine away to get fixed with a worse case scenario of around £300 to fix or fix it myself for around £100 or yes like you say it could cost me nothing but you sounded pretty sure that it was water damaged and that you could spot when a vac had been cleaned up.Emplying i might clean up the vac to hide any damage.(I wouldnt Know where to start mate)
You would have gotten the machine exactly as it was when it went(SPOTLESS AND BONE DRY)
£160 for a new vac fitted no problem. £80 courier no problem.I was uncomfortable sending away my machine to someone whos seems sure its waterdamaged without seeing it>THATS THE PROBLEM
