Despite having a protectaball on the end of my hose, the rectus 21 female still got damaged. I replaced it and made this to protect the new one.
It's made out of a 60 mm hard foam rubber ball, but pretty much any size would do. The 25 mm hole is drilled just deep enough to cover the fitting. The 13 hole mm slides over my hose easily but won't go over the fitting.

If you want to make one for yourself, drill the holes VERY gently and slowly or the bits will catch in the ball which could be dangerous. I held the ball gently in a vice and had a bit of scrap wood underneath to protect the drill bit when it broke through.

Hi,
Thanks for a very easy to see procedure in pictures.
Our way of proctecting the female end stop coupling is to warm up a piece of 1/2" garden hose and push it over the release ring of the connector. Once the hose has cooled down then cut it back so it extends over the end of the fitting by a couple of mm's but does interfere with the male hose fitting to the brush. I suppose the best way of likening this is to a foreskin that protects your nob end. (If I spell nob with a K the site changes it to numpty.) ;D ;D ;D
We have a Gardiners protector ball on the male hose coupling, but still find it get damaged when curling the hose of the pole up, although it does last longer than with no protector ball at all.

It works brilliantly. Now I can reel in my hose and the fitting is kept clean and un-scuffed.

you can get foam practice golf balls for indoor use from tesco similar size to ones sold as protecta balls

The ball needs to be very firm foam in order to drill it. If it's too soft it won't drill properly. It's also dangerous as the drill bit bites in and rips the ball out of the vice. I know this from experience.
Summary: you need firm balls to get good results!

Yes, but I don't think that the ones you buy slide over the fitting, do they? This one does, and that's the whole point of it. As Spruce put it, like a foreskin. Actually, as the fitting is for a female, maybe it's more of a labia?
Anyway, the main point is that my delicate bits don't get dragged over the ground, get worn down and get bits of grit in the works.
And anyway, even if it is only a couple of quid, why would I ever want to buy anything when I can make it myself? I get a real sense of achievement out of doing stuff for myself.
