Can any of you lot give me some tips about how to effectively clean these out. I have had one sitting around for about 2 years that originally held orange juice , i tried to clean it out when i bought it but found it tricky , i could put water in and swill it about but found it very hard to drain it all out as the outlet is in the middle and when you tip it to get the water out it goes either side of outlet ..... very frustrating , i was thinking of power washing the gunk but then how do you drain it?

When I did mine i put bricks at the back so it was raised one end, the outlet was over a drain, pressure washed it then left a hose in the the tank on, so that what was in there would eventully come out...

Jet was it out, your not going to get it 100% empty, but so long as you flush it a little bit of water at the bottom wont hurt

I've cut a bigger round hole in mine, so I can pressure wash it better; and of course the transfer pump will fit through this hole. I bought one that held PVA glue, which probably wasn't the brightest thing I've ever done.
I've been pressure washing it for about an hour, with a baby domestic pressure washer, and for the little bits of floaty PVA glue that I can't get out, I'm going to 'black-nasty' (gaffer tape) a ladle to the end of a short length of modular fishing pole, and scoop 'em out.
I'm taking a break from it right now.
Sigh!

sounds like fun tosh

Pressure wash it out then put an old towel in the bottom and it will act as a sponge and will get every last drop, remember to take the towel out again ;D

I've done it; it's sorted.
When it fills up I'll probably have a TDS of about 87 or something and start flapping; but we'll see.
The IBC looks massive, but I've been using two 200 litre water butts and about 6 x 25 litre drums for the past month, and not only was it contaminating my van tank with debris from our trees, it was a massive ruddy pain in the ass to do. ;D
I've just got to paint it now.
Can anyone suggest what sort of paint to use? Cheap would be good. Wor Lass wants 'green'. ;D

I'd go cheap and green then Tosh. ;D
Go to Wickes - buy some cheap green garden paint and a cheap brush and bob's yer uncle.
Or do what I did. Go and buy some 2" polystyrene insulation or that "silvered insulation" and box it in using Gaffer Tape to secure it.
Make sure it is high enough off the ground (on breeze blocks) to stick your oil filled rad underneath and box that in too. Toasty in minus 10 - gotta think ahead.

Thanks, Gold. I'll stick it up on breeze blocks as suggested, so I can get a radiator underneath it. It's also planned to be covered in that insulation stuff too; Wor Lass also wants me to 'box it in' and make it look like a mini shed, which won't be too difficult since it's against a brick shed already. But in the mean time, I'll do the 'paint thing', 'cos I know they turn green by themselves otherwise.
I'm already planning for Winter, 'cos it was such a laugh last Winter when a certain member was calling everyone liars because they were working when he was frozen up. I still giggle about that in the wee hours.
I'm sad I know.
Thanks for the help.
