i get the odd job for carpet cleaning where have no power to connect my prochem (powermax) carpet cleaner so im looking into a genny to power it.it says on the side of the machine 2860watts im no sure if this is the max or not though. so the question i need to know is what size genny do i need? and will this do my machine any harm at all running off a genny? yes i should of bought a TM before the TM owners say :D

I would aim for a 3KW constant supply and no it won't harm the machine.
This could work out expensive and noisy to run though.

thats good then 3kw gennys are not that dear long as that will cover it just was'nt sure how far over the 2860watts i needed to go.cheers.

You might need to go slightly higher than I suggested.
For example this one http://www.justgenerators.co.uk/pages/yamaha_EF2800i.htm is a 3.5KVA but will only run at a constant 2400 watts.
Look around but look for the constant running wattage not the max output.

As a rule I would almost double up the power of the genarator, I have exactly the same steempro machine and a 4.5 kva diesel generator.
When you start your motors this is when the generator is working it's hardest so I wouldn't touch anything less than 4000 watts mate, my kipor silent run diesel runs my machine perfect, however it weighs 160 kgs!!!
There are smaller, lighter 4000 w generators out there which are petrol powerered.
Hope this helps

Does your genny run your powermax and your pressure washer at the same time

Hi Jim
Yes it does mate, i usually start the PW first then each motor one after the other, however if i try and run the extractor AND my heat and run water warmer.... forget it!!
