THIS IS REALLY SIMPLE...As i try tell everyone about this but no one listens ::) ;D i was making a new harris up today cause after over a year mines pretty tired now. Still work just clamps slipping.
Heat the original plastic end up and as its melted screw it into the angle adaptor, or brush and it will make a thread to it. Like this :)

After this, making a hole and feeding the pole hose through, it takes about 5 mins to make one up...all for £15! No one can knock that!
-
i didn't listen, but now i have seen ;)
-
Tip from the Mattster..I did this and its a great idea

once you've screwed it in and it hardens can you unscrew the angle adapter?
-
Yup, and there should be a thread there
-
That's really clever, Sensai.
-
how big are these harris poles? what is closed length of them also?
-
17 ish feet i think, well theyre 5 meters, plus your reach.
Very nice closed length and light id say just over 5 1/2 foot closed.
-
Ive always wondered what all the fuss was about with these poles, until I made one up for my son who started working for me about a month ago. All I can say is they are perfect for an every day pole (especially for a heavy handed git like my son!!)
-
Couldnt agree more, its not the best pole in the world, never claimed it is...but its light, rigid and £15. Dont know why anyone knocks them to be fair. Its all ive used for 2 or more years, been fantastic, and im only on my second one.
£30 in over 2 years? When i was spending £120 on a clx every 3 - 4 months as they kept splitting/snapping

Hi Matt
Do you mean the CL-X or the X-Tels? The CL-X has only been out for 11 months so if you've only been using the Harris pole for two years I would imagine that you mean the X-Tels were splitting every 3-4 months. Also, if you had been splitting CL-Xs every 3-4 months I would have heard about it as I would have considered this unacceptable. I'm sure you can see why I'm asking! :)

surely the harris pole would slow you down a bit as they ve got twist clamps?17 ft would be too short for a lot of my domestics as there is invariably a conservatory or flat roof to reach over which would mean going back to the van for another pole.thus wasting time.
i have seen the poles in b and q but for me there not worth converting for my particular work.
-
Twist clamps are quick; it's not a 'screw clamp', you just give one twist till it 'nips' (I dislike that word due to it's racist overtones ;D); you don't have to keep on twisting it. It's no faster or slower than any other type of clamp.
The Harris pole, for £15 is top notch.

Has anyone found a way or anything suitable to extend the harris pole?
-
Also forgot to add...once youve fitted these plastic collars, you just swap them to your next one and so on and so on ;D

No1 section Unger fits inside the No1 section Harris.( A few wraps of tape will wedge it in but not adjustable).
No4/5section fits outside the base section of the Harris and is adjustable.

I have a harris that extends to 27 foot and also made a 4 foot short pole for ground floor cleaning. You can also make a 18 inch goose neck out of a Polex aluminium- crank, with flip release for quick action and adding a black flexi goose neck to the end it will get into many positions. At this point your harris is 28.5 long. The Harris Killer pole is born.

Make that 3 !!! I'm converted ;D

What supermarkets stock the Harris pole ?
-
Supermarkets? B and Q do them
-
For routine run of the mill domestic two story (ground and first floor) work, the Harris is the best budget pole. I never bought just one; I'd buy two at a time (for £15 I may as well) and each one would last me about six months.
-
My Harris pole lasted me 3 weeks before the clamps play up,they get really tight!
-
this has been said before..dont use the clamps....extend pole...hold the hose and pole at the bottom of the pole this will keep it up. when finnished release pole hose and pole slides down..keep clamps for awkward jobs were needed.

Mine last over a year every time, leave about an inch or 2 where the you tighten the clamps up so youve got something to loosen off. You only have to "nip" them up to use them.
-
i've always used harris poles they are very good value.the only thing that bothers me is the grey hands

Get some black insulating tape and wrap it up then.
-
closed length?
-
You can get a 32mm I D insulation tube from the plumbing shops that will slide over the bottom of a harries pole with the help of a silicon spray. This will provide a worm pole and a good grip if raped with electric tape. I also put some plastic glue on the ends of this tube and pull tight with some tie wires to form a round soft end .

I'm no spelling and grammar Nazi, but you really needed that 'w' and 'p' there!

I used to do this, takes a bit of getting used to, in the end i went back to using clamps.
Erect the pole on the ground to the height you want it at, then place your hand on the pole hose at the end of the pole and bring the pole up, it wont come down as your stopping it with the pole hose. and when you let go of the hose the pole comes down, mind your fingers tho, sometimes it comes down fast!
-
Morning Matt!
Surely by doing this the pole would just spin?
-
Morning mate, yeh it kinda does but you get the hang of it.
Its fast when you get used to it, as you can flick it to all heights...but honestly in my experience its just easy and better using the clamps.
-
Yeah , clamps it is then!
-
h2 try it with out clamps..if you dont try you will never know if it suits you..its a lot faster
