As promised , heres my input to the forum , normally i give the odd person a hard time , due to the falling down water , but occasionally i get a brainstorm , and i feel its time for my input , ok , i may get pooo pooed but i,ll get even later ;D
Built this some time ago , just refined it a bit lately , here are the results , it works for me .
The pics are in no special order , any Q's just ask or bell me , the number is on the side of the van .
All the DIY bits are from Wickes , £40 or so .
Vac from Lidl , £60 .
Optional genny from machine mart , £209 on a vat free day , normally £250, 2.8 kva
Pipes are mini fit down pipes , 3 needed in total for normal house , 2 are left alone , 1 is cut a few times to make your nozzles and joining sections .
You will also need 2 of the same product angle joiners for the top bend , a small piece of downpipe will be needed to join the angle sections together
The main pipe joiners are standard house downpipe , this you will need to get bang on when cutting , you need to cut out a section along the length of pipe to fit spot on around the minifit downpipe , if you dont get it right you will lose your suction due to leaks !
When making your various nozzles , i found that holding them over a gas hob was ideal , warm them and press them to desired shape , all the nozzle and bend sections are sealed with insulation tape .
The joining of the main tubes is done by large jubilee clips , tighten one clip fully as to make i a permanent fixture to one end of each downpipe , this means any higher sections can be added and lightly nipped up when adding further sections , i have had 4 sections up so far , thats when it gets a bit wobbly .
You can if you like cut out a lot of the fiddly work by using the proper joining sections from wickes .......
However , i would only recomend this for no more than 2 full pipes ..... the overlap is not enough for anything higher .
PICS ARE AS FOLLOWS
1500 watt vac , sucking 1 and 2 trainers , 1 brodex brush and 2 full tinnies !
Suction tubes held horizontal , 2.5 lengths (to show flex)
Genny and Vac
All system in van
All system in van plus power washing element too .
Hope this can be used by some of you , any Q's just ask

I have a 1.5kva genny, I take it that it wouldn't be up to job with one of the above vacs
-
Not mine, my mini vac is 1200w my goodness some strange people on here!
-
That was exactly my main concern Stu Mac , in my case i already had the vac but not the genny , all i did was went to couple of hire shops and asked if they could make sure that the vac would power up with the gennies they had in stock before i hired one from them , all most had was 2.8 kva hondas , thats why i went 2.8kva .
You however are in a better position as you have the gennie already , i cant see a prob with you putting it on the van and going to a place like machine mart and asking to see if it will power up a display model from the shelf , i hit a brick wall in that respect as they were not willing to trial a gennie in the same way .
Just remember that vacs have induction motors , well most do anyway , so although they have lets say a 1400w motor , it can take up to double the wattage to kick the motor into life .
Thats not in stone , but well worth doing the maths before you buy , i was not about to part with a days pay on a whim .
Regards Rich
-
You have to double the wattage then add 100 that's the official way to get full power, add 200 for a 110v.
-
You could heat one of those ends and flatten it to make a duck bill nozzle too.
-
HEHEHEHE , my point proven then , if i have to double the watts and add 100 then why does my vac suck like a cheap hooker ?
Vac is 1500 so double is 3000 plus 100 is 3100 , 2.8kva is 2800 watt ;D
Do the test Stu Mac , its the only way .
Just noticed the package on the header ad for vacs , 1400 vac supplied with a 2.4 kva machine mart genny , shouldnt work by that rule

Davids 3511 , that was my next job to do

You have totally the wrong person, for wind up. We sell to people that no if they were diying, working hours to save 60.00 they could be out earning 200.00 , however if you want to copy any of my tools, that's respect to my tools, why are people suddenly looking to make small vaks? Because we started it, last year comments were you have to have 20,000watts with 20 vac motors!
-
Thanks Rich ;)
Craig chill, I thought about this 3 years ago but didn't try it, and I may still not try it. Glyn used to get all annoyed when people made their own as well :o
I enjoy making stuff at the weekends and trialling it in my spare time, of course you are correct any right minded business would just buy of the shelf, but that isn't me or rich by the looks of it.
-
Extremely chilled, not anoyed, I have a large cleaning company which is 95% of my turnover our supply business is a bank roll operation, we produce equipment which helps lots of people and appreciate their business, however DIY guys not buying my kit have zero effect on my life style. So happy building.
-
Well said Craig , but i cant help but think you got a little pi55ey about the fact that i clocked your post and blew you out of the water with my humble attempt at a gutter vac .
I could in fact go and buy a 3600w model with gold plated plug in the morning , the truth is that my time on the glass is lucrative , therefore i have time to mess about in my shed , so i refuse to give some bloke more money than i could diy it for , and stronger too i might add ;D
Perhaps i should give up the glass , put my talents fully into the shed , make a better looking product than my diy efforts , what do you think ?
Rich
-
I think that's a great idea, you got one of mine in your shed to know it's weak yes? And please produce, we have 60,000 worth of stock in our shop so yes get your stock and start selling.
Lidal or another fine vacuum company as long as you catch the right week can be your main supplier of such fine products, maybe with a commercial use warranty?

-
Glad to see you have a sense of humour Craig ;D
Dont take any of my banter to heart mate , pulling your leg , you sound as stubborn as me !
I could carry on all night , but i need to get some sleep and i have a busy day in the shed on Friday , im gonna sink Alex Gardiner in the morning ;D ;D ;D
Regards Rich ;)
