ive been wfp since november and one of my fingers "locks" in position.
no pain just a little weak first thing in morning
im 43 and been desk jockey until last year .... guess just have to get used to it

I have problems with my left wrist, I know its caused by extending the pole, just have to wear a wrist support.
The main problem is pushing down on it when climbing over fences, not nice at all...
Then there's the sciatica...
-
I'm 52 and hope to be doing it untill at least my 70th birthday. I've got no pension to look forward to so I will have to continue to work.
-
I've had the 'numb hands' thing after prolonged poling for a number of years now. At first I thought it was carpel tunnel syndrome, but as the years have past, nothing bad has happened, so when I get the numb hands I take a break (normally less than a minute) where I put down my pole and 'relax', and it soon passes.
Then I crack back on working again.

Doing a few yoga exercisies will probably help with the neck as it helps relieve tension, stretches muscles and ligaments in different directions and strengthens and increases suppleness of the body overall.
I find it helps.

ive started to take fish oil/glucosamine tablets every day plus ive done a month off the cigarettes.ive been swimming a few times during my spell off work.i do some light yoga some days.just need to get back into the habit every morning and night now.
gotta start looking after myself now after years of abusing my poor body!! ;D ;D ;D

I'm a bit lazy when it comes to doing the yoga but I find it definitely helps if I do it a few times a week.
Probably getting into meditation helps as well, something to do with helping the body to heal. I attended a buddhist meditation course years ago and at the time had rsi in my right shoulder and found that simply directing attention to the area during the class the pain went away. (It wasn't suggested, just something I found myself doing).

I get this after a prolonged amount of work and find that my 8 weekly chiropractor visit helps as does intaking cannabis using a vaporisor...seriously cannabis helps my body relax and not tighten up during the night...
Cheers
Dave.

It will need to help you relax when you get banged up for it and have to accommodate "mummies c.o.c.k" every evening. ;D

I`ve heard it`s good for the joints.

I have had a succession of RSI shoulder neck and bad back problems etc etc -all can be cured by the right sort of excercises.Accupuncture also worked. Look on Youtube and put in the problem you want to fix and up pops good videos. I tried all the tablets etc and agree with Tosh, you need to drink 2L water a day.

How do you hold the pole Dazmond? If your gripping the pole in the middle with your right hand then that can cause strain. I cup my hand and sit the base of the pole in my hand.
For neck ache you can work further away from the window, only a real solution if you have a light pole and no good if your working at great heights.
I've had the elbow pain as well but my osteopath showed me some exercises you can do to stretch out the tendons, the pain has now gone. In short look at the way your working and try to make adjustments and see an osteopath, it will be worth the money if he's any good.

>> Scud...no problem as I live in the land of weed :D
-
as for the weed it will help you relax then your muscles will follow, now I'm 42 Ive smoked weed from age 13 too 39, gave up now, sort of, weekends only with some rum, but as for aches will working i just cheat these days, i use Decca in small doses due to it has very good healing properties works a treat you just got to watch out for bad moods but I'm old enough to control them, if your not in control of your emotion don't try it, you here the word roid rage Decca in high dose will cause it and double your strength but also wonderful healing properties so low dose is fine.

whats decca? ???

whats decca? ???
It's a steroid:
Side Effects:
Deca has a fairly low rate of side effects compared to other, more extreme compounds. However, even with low doses, side effects may include sever depression and mood swings, “roid rage”, oily skin, acne, liver damage, heart attack, irregular blood pressure, digestive issues, sleeplessness, restlessness, and because it is an injectable steroid, injection abcesses are common and because its not uncommon for bodybuilder buddies to share needles, HIV and other blood born diseases are possible.

mug im an ex bodyduilder and yes used steroids they do not help you heal they just take the pain away trust me when you stop taking them you will start to fall apart as i am and im only 27 i have bad knees and bad shoulders where as i could not feel the pain while on them i made them worse only relised when i stoped bodybuilding
-
same here you don't feel the damage you are doing while on them. Decca superb stuff though and stays in body for up to 18 months so you would not need to take hardly any to feel the benifit. not that i condone this though ;)

I'm coming up 2 years wfp, I remember at firstI was aching all over but i wouldn't say I get aches through poling these days, mind you us blokes that deal with trollies and 25ltr drums must be more prone to aches and pains no ? of course Dazmond wheels about a double one doesn't he ? but for me personally at 49 I don't particularly feel like a wreck yet. I feel a hell of a lot better than the other 23 years of trad window cleaning, of course that's only a personal opinion.

mug im not i was miss informed i just rang him and he said yes it helps not feel the pain, he just put it in simple terms for me as a none user, but it works and has been for the last couple of years, i only take six week coarse then leave it alone till i fell i need it, not sure if the falling apart bit is right or your unlucky as my mate is 51 and still a big boy and uses then his four brothers are the same they been on if for time, so there still healthy and not falling apart, a few mood swings but other than that there still honey monsters,
-
did not mean to sound rude mate just be carefull even a little amount can cause roid rage and thats when you are all there in the head i seen my mate go from nice guy to crazy guy in seconds he done 3 bouncers and the police could not control him they sprayed him and it made him worse i left them to it and went home he is still in prison now from it and not all there now shame was a nice guy

i been a bouncer 14 years had a bad temperament most of my life i learnt to control it to a point i can turn like a switch Ive spent years learning to control it, since Ive used roids Ive had no issues 2mm Decca max, Ive used sus and others when i first started but just use Decca now, I'm fully aware of bad points but they where there before i started so no issues there, i converted my garage years ago so if i got the hump i go in there smash the bag and bang some weights smash the bag and I'm fine take the dog for a long walk and its all good, thanks for the concern but Ive had issue most my life, Ive been round the block a few times. but due to my injuries i do find decca helps, but i would say its not for everyone, but im good thanks for concerns woody
