Title: Own branded spotter?
Post by: justin brown on April 26, 2011, 06:12:50 pm
I am looking to get my own branded spotter to give away (doing a large contra-deal promotion with a well know organisation). Can anyone recommend anyone? have tried the 'usual suspects before' but want more of a specific label than the generic ones available?

I use the ones from Solution who do some good deals from time to time. I manage to sell them quite frequently to past customers friends and family for £9.95 a bottle. I tend to use the stuff myself, it's that good :)

£84 for 60 bottles.... ;)

There are a lot of regulations about chemicals, you might want to give away your own spotter but be careful.

Even if you give away a spotter i'm sure you still should hand over a Mineral Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). If someone took you to court about a chemical you mixed up in your garage, good luck.

This might seem a bit OTT but there are people out there looking to sue people.

I take it that you are now using HD in cleaning your carpets rather than me? Now that’s very sad, but you are correct I think ??? ::) ;D

Derek probably but I always ask Tesco’s and a like for them, it dose freak them out a bit   ;)

MSDS = Material Safety Data Sheet.

I agree, a bit daft as Derek has pointed out. Even buying chems and spotters from suppliers we dont get them (if we want them we have to ask, and even then still dont get them sometimes).

Think John Kelly might answer this one in more detail, but I'm sure that you merely have to have an msds available should it be requested.

On a slightly different subject, I cleaned a customer's oven a while back and advised the customer to turn the grill/oven on to let the chemical's burn off before placing food in it.

A few hours later he rang to say his son's mouth had swollen having eaten cheese on toast from the top grill. He hadn't done as I asked him to do.

His wife was on the other phone to the  NHS helpline who'd asked for the COSHH information. I was fortunate to have had the fore-thought to download COSHH sheet for every new product I buy, so I was able to give them the information immediately.

The outcome was that their child's mouth was fine after half an hour, and now "I" switch the oven/s on for the customer. The child's father actually apologised to me for not doing as I advised, but I still felt really responsible for not doing it myself... You live and you learn.....

the spotter i got from Solutions came with the labels in sheets which i had to stick on my self, they are just Avery stickers put through a printer.

if you want a more specific label then either design one or get a design company to do it for you then buy the Avery stickers your self

Paul, no setup charge. And labels are on bottles.

You only really need to be cautious if you are supplying DANGEROUS products. Most spotters supplied by carpet cleaning suppliers are non hazardous. Ours are a microsplitter and present no hazard if it was consumed by a small child.
Retailers do not need to supply consumers with a data sheet but need to have one available for download if asked for. COSHH regulation are primarily designed to deal with substances used by empolyees not consumers. Likewise you supplying a customer would not need to supply a data sheet but should be able to provide one if asked within a resonable timeframe.

Steve quite rightly airs on the side of caution but I guess John Kelly's answer is the one that solves all answers on the legal side and that's why we buy from him not just product but the knowledge.

Mike, I always wondered what that yellow tinge was around your eyes. Did think it was due to over indulgance in the old Tetleys, now I'm enlightened. :)
