Title: Self taught website building ( Yes that's why I've been away from the forum )
Post by: kinder clean on April 23, 2011, 04:51:37 pm
Hello to all, long time no posting !

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Haven't posted since January, main reason being I submersed my brain into learning website design ( and the dreaded SEO )

This plus the fact I couldn't sign in to the forum the last few times I tried !  ;D )

Anyway after several courses and much head banging I finally got my head round it.

I've launched 2 sites so far, let me know what you think.

www.carpetcleanersheffield.com (http://www.carpetcleanersheffield.com)  Page one on google now.

and

www.nottinghamcarpetcleaner.com (http://www.nottinghamcarpetcleaner.com)  Just creeped on to page one !

This is without any links on either site as yet.

I'm still learning but I'm quite pleased with the sites and I'm almost ready to launch 2 more.

I'm also building sites for a beauty salon and another for a hairdresser ( don't ask ) so I might hang my wand up ( kidding, not just yet !! )

I'm not going to say I'm available to hire as that would be blatent advertising and I just don't beleive that's right, So just to clarify I'm not

saying that.  ;D

Ok so what's the gossip, what have I missed ????

if they are you 1st attempts at websites then you have a talent for web design, they look real good, I prefer the Sheffield site.

nice to see realistic prices instead of the £20 a room mob

re your prices.

For a Gold clean of lounge/diner, single
bedroom and double bedroom and stairs.
Would that be £250?
Or would it be cheaper by having all done.
Do the prices reflect having just the one
room done?

looks great...reads great..well done..

Where / what package did you use?..

I too have built my own little website ... free ...from scratch...via office live...and launched it on google..it did my head in knowing nothing about web sites seo..etc... so any tips welcome..as i'm new to the industry and just starting out  ( about 6 weeks now)

why the k2 theme? you are building a brand around this,...... do you think this is a appropriate and memorable theme?

why use K2kleaning?, people will spell it wrong in search engines and put the correct spelling of cleaning.

its Ok to be clever with names but will it help your company more than a more traditionally themed name?

PS; I speak from experience.

I once had a cleaning company called White Buffalo Cleaning.... until I introduced my self to an office manager and he said to me "we don't have any white Buffalo's that need cleaning" :-\ :-\

thanks for the response...

yeah building a brand / company theme...with more than carpet cleaning etc.. on offer in time

K2 is the second largest mountain in the world...we all know the largest....and the brand that exist around that..
I like K2 as i think the theme of peak service , peak clean , peak finish etc etc.... goes well together..and there is a load of other spin off snap lines etc..themes i can vary around the mountain theme

I aint trying to be clever with names etc...just thinking of the long term aim of the brand image etc..

\with regrards to spelling cleaning with a K... i see numerous others spelling it with K ... and a variation like Kleen...etc... I take on board the spelling and search thing

thing is we can all go town if we so wish and critique name choices / web layouts etc etc... couldn't we?

take it my website is ok seeing as my choice of name is the only respnded too!
having not been professional designed and hosted at extortionate costs...in fact it cost me nothing....if i was paying i'd want it to be better than some i've seen....who've paid loads..

didn't ask to comment on my choice of name thanks......maybe PH cleaning would to the trick? or is that another white elephant...buffalo sorry!

if you get a but touchy just because i've said something you don't like then you need a bit  tougher skin, I was trying to be helpful not critical

:D wondered when the bite would come....

I'm big enough ,, old enough..and thick skinned enough.blah blah...you didn't answer the question i posted ....if i'd posted business name any feedback i'd understand....my post was relating to a free office live website i built n hosted free....this will hopefully help others seeking to construct a website on a limited budget in a similar position to myself.....brand name etc... is a different topic.....and i did post i took your comments on board re name etc...

k2 kleaning "For a peak finish"

kinder egg: is this what you've used? http://www.serif.com/webplus/

how much did you do yourself hand made etc? if you've used that website program it's hardly self taught web building as it looks like from the code of both sites something has done all the work for you whilst you've chosen what colour from a drop down list, what size etc.

sorry if i've got it wrong but i'm looking at the code this looks like a wysiwyg style site which isn't really web building.

My thoughts too but there is already a K" cleaning (with a "C") in the States.

Paul,

K2 is a lot better than some I've seen. Best of luck.
