I have had a Super-Max for just over a year now and yes good pole BUT I'm getting carbon splinters in my hands :(
Now I'm in the market for a now pole and keep on hearing about the SL-X BUT really not going to spend my good money on a pole that is going to leave my hands...black, itchy, or with carbon splinters!
can anyone enlighten me if this pole is hard wearing!
many thanks...
-
best pole you will buy ;)
-
i got a splinter through my finger yesterday from my slx18, had to go home and cut it out with a blade
-
No pole is free from splinters once the surface wears down exposing the fibres. Thats why you wear gloves.

Ive never got a splinter from my Harris Pole!! ;)
-
what rubbish I've never had splinters ever.

Carbon fibre is a compromise... strength, rigidity, weight...carbon does suffer from wear...best way to think about it...is how much wear and tear on your body has it saved you, how much have you made from the pole? etc, etc...
If there was something better I would buy it but Alex and Gardiners do produce 'exceedingly good poles'.
Personally I work my SL-X and other poles hard, they are not treated with kidd gloves, just tools to make the cash, when a pole is getting a little too tired, it is either dismanatled and used as spares or completely cut down as a 'Super Mini'. If a day to day use pole lasts me 18months I am happy and willing to spend money on another.
If you want something that will last and last...perhaps composite will fair better?
Also Alex and his team are great to deal with..so they get my cash over other suppliers.
Cheers
Dave.

Andy Andy Andy, get rid of those crappy Brodex poles and treat yourself to a quality pole ;)

I've got one of the first slx 25's so your looking at 3 years use there. Still a bit of life left in it yet. I wear gloves for work, if I didn't I'd have black, sore, rough dirty hands, and I think most of that would come from reeling in and out the hose.
Do yourself a favour and get some gloves.
Simon.

We would agree with you - complete madness. Sales have been through the roof recently. We only went out of stock of the SL-X25 about 10 days ago but have pre-sold the next batch coming in of this size. We will have available from next week the 18ft, 22ft and 30ft sizes of SL-X. The SL-X35 will be available from June. All these details are already on the website.
Please note this post is purely to provide accurate information, ie, not all SL-X poles are out of stock until July only the SL-X25, and is not intended to advertise, promote or imply that our products are superior or should be bought in preference to any other product on the market.

Thanks for that , good to hear anydeals going on the 30s ???

Still a handy spin-off, though! ::)

Make you sure you order lots of glue for when the clamps come off the pole about three months in.

It's a really good pole, though I've only been using mine for about two weeks now. It's really light and rigid it's almost a pleasure to work with.
I'm also a fan of external pole hose; bin the yellow hose that comes with the pole - it's rubbish - get some pole hose that is capable of being 'nipped' to stop your water flow and work with it externally. It's a lot easier to extend or shorten the pole making it quicker to use.
I'm finding that I can work quicker, and for longer periods (you don't tire as quickly with a lightweight-rigid pole), so even though the SLX is expensive, it'll make you money through the speed you'll work at and because it's so easy to use. Those 'awkward reaches' I used to have with my Harris pole aren't as awkward or as physically demanding anymore; and because work is a lot easier these days, motivation to get it done is at an all time high.
I definitely thing the SLX is a top pole. It is expensive though.

I agree with Tosh on all of that.
I also now use the hose outside the pole, so much better

The slx 18 closed is about 4ft. In the end you may hardly ever use the clx 4. Too much hassle changing poles.

Spray yor slx with furniture polish once a week and wipe off. Ive been doing this for the last 3 weeks and hardly get any carbon dust coming off anymore. My pole is 2 + years old, so I would of thought doing this with a brand new pole would prolong the life :)
-
Just make sure it is not a wax based polish.

the best summer gloves i have used are the ones gardiners sell had mine 2yrs now a few holes but still good for the job i also use the disposable nitrile gloves they sell both really good
-
Regarding Gardiners Pole hose- You'll be fine with it in this weather, it behaves as it should. I have to admit it can get a bit stiff in the cold of winter though. ;)

a mates just bought the super max 40
bl o o d y brilliant pole for the money . 8)
