Title: For the lads local to Chepstow - St Arvans Court
Post by: Tom White on April 15, 2011, 04:51:58 pm
I quoted and got St Arvans Court (I think that's what it's called; it's just past Itton, travelling from Chepstow, and you turn left at a place with lots of 'Rs' and 'Ls' in it (Kargllrwd or something)), it's a place owned by a lady who has some sort of business pertaining to horses.

I turned up this morning to do the initial clean and the owner sent a member of staff to tell me that only part of it needed cleaning this time; which was not our original agreement.  I thought that if I'm going to get messed about at a first clean, what's this lady going to be like in a years time?  Besides which, while I was showing Wor Lass where to start and what to do, I had a chat with a plumber whose working there and he complained about the owner too.

And from our chat when I quoted, I knew she had a problem retaining window cleaners; I think I know why.

Anyway, I left without cleaning and I'm not doing the account.

So, if you quote for it, I quoted £60 for the main house and £10 for a small annex (which I think she rents out).  The frequency was every-three-months.  She wanted to see my insurance; so don't bother quoting if you've not got any, and make sure you're extra firm with her at the quoting stage.

Oh, and being a 'horsey lady' there's dogs running loose everywhere.  Two of 'em are a bit growly, but they didn't bite.

She will be looking for a window cleaner, so I just thought I'd give you a 'heads up' prior to quoting.

Given this information, I wouldn't do it without banging in a big initial cleaning charge, personally.  ;D

 ;D

But getting messed about is deadly serious!  >:(

And fancy just sending out a member of her staff to tell me; so I couldn't even discuss it with her!  >:(

It came today, mate, thanks very much.  You are now on my Christmas card list, but seriously, that was very kind of you.

Thanks.

Roy

It's a small world.   ;D

Hopefully she'll learn to treat the next window cleaner she gets with a little less contempt.

It wasn't a wasted journey though, because I do Glyn Farm just down the road in Itton.

But still!  >:(

My Brother in law used to do them £120 for the lot out side every 12wks. But boy did she mess him about and keep him waiting for payment.

She also has property in several other towns miles away and they are small, and expects you to drop every thing an clean them as required.

in this map you can see shirenewton hall, and SSE of it is a place called owl barn.

I worked on them both briefly when I was in bullark.

The hall was inhabited by some fairly unpleasant creatures, and their dogs. One of the dogs was a seriously deranged rott, that was kept is a caged pound, and looked mad and hungry, the other was a cross between jock from fred basset and gnasher. I flicked a full applicator of water at it cause it was trying to give me a hard time.

The people were a pain, they were loaded and loving it.

The house is a real gem. People are rissoles.  £90

Owl barn next door was a really nice job, great people great payers. £25

that would have been 2000 ish

Ah San Arfan - that's where I met the great Ian Chalfont St Giles all those years ago ... happy times!

Sounds like this custy is almost worth going over the bridge for ... NOT!

Why not send squeaky round to have a crack at it?  ;D

Actually, the place is called St Arvans Court, but it's past Itton, so not in St Arvans.  There's lots of big posh houses around there though; she's nothing special; she doesn't even have an indoor swimming pool, underfloor heating, or electric gates.

Her poverty disgusts me.

That's the one, Roy.  Most of those buildings must be stables, because the house and annex looks small in comparison.
