The reason I ask is because someone im doing advertising with who use to work for the friday-ad now has his own business, he does a a5 glossy mag that promotes businesses in your area, its a lot better then any mag ive advertised in before, the mag only has space for 3or4 of each type of business, so once theres 3 window cleaners in it then no more can adverise in it, theres 4 different size ads I think that you can choose from, I have my leaflet as my ad, in my area there is 48,000 propertys, 24,000 of them get the mag one month then the following month the other 24,000 get it and so on.....
Any way he rung me today to see if I want to be in next months addition and mentioned he doing another area which is crawley, I said I could try and get him 3 windys in that area....So is anyone interested, if so email me your contact info and ill get him to call you...
The magazine only has businesses in it that are associated with peoples homes i.e garndners/ builders/ electrictions/ etc.........

i cover cwarley but advertising has never worked for me , canvassing has always been where money has gone as i only pay for results , though maybe i havent advertisied in the right places.

I have my own canvasser too, but what I liked about this mag was it was a5 glossy which ment that my leaflet that I have delivered can be put in it, I pay £35 per 1000 leaflets delivered, but now I get my leaflet delivered to every property in my area, only has businesses in that are based on home improvements so people will keep it in there draw for when they need something, The way ive looked at it is if I get 4/5 custys it will cover the monthly expense,

Not wanting to sound negative here but particularly in Crawley I prefer to do the the targetting rather than letting the customer do it. Although there are many accessible properties in Crawley, there is a far higher percentage of impossible/very difficult to access properties. It's much worse for this than any other area I've worked in. I say this because most of the town consists of large sprawling estates which are terraced housing. They were built with no back alleys so the only way to the back is through the house i.e. having to make an appointment each time. I know the area well as I've lived in the town all of my life. I have more work in Crawley than any other individual town but I've had to be a lot more selective to achieve this. Also, in two of the larger estates, much of the housing consists of courts and walkways. Perhaps OK for ladder work but not so good for WFP. The main reason I went out of town for work in the first place was due to access issues. Of course, with so much compact housing, there are often parking issues. This is in addition to all the houses within a kilometre of the town centre being in resident parking zones.
I've found that advertising in Crawley hasn't worked very well for me because only about 1 in 4 properties have had access. It's the places where window cleaners won't go that tend to do most of the phoning.
This isn't to say that someone wouldn't do OK here. If they get a lot of enquiries from the ad, maybe perhaps 1 in 3 properties might be enough to make it worthwhile.
This isn't my usual pickiness either. Texting/phoning for a gate to be left unlocked is one thing. Being tied to times of day because you can only do a full clean if someone is home is quite another.

I would totally agree with what Paul Coleman said.
