hi again i am still debating on which hosting company to go with meanwhile had a call from another company if any knows about them or is currently with them? there called http://www.businesssearchlocal.co.uk they quoted me £250+vat set up and £50+vat per month which is on a 30 day rolling basis.. I honestly dont know if this is good, profitable or reasonable to be on 1st page of google. again any advice would be excellent thanks.

In the past I have used 1and1.co.uk and EUKHOST.co.uk, both are reasonable. 1and's servers are in Germany which some people think will hinder your visibility in Google.co.uk but it never affected sites I ran.
With regards SEO, try www.efound.co.uk, they are pretty good, though possibly more than £50 per month.

ok mark thanks for the info i will check them out although i think 1-1 is the 1 most are recommended. :)

www.vidahost.com (http://my.vidahost.com/aff.php?aff=046) is all we use. costs so little and you get a brilliant service. any questions answered within minutes, even at midnight i'll email them and they'll still be just as quick, often going out their way to sort out problems i've made rather then just offering advice.

The main problem with companies like 1&1 is they seem attractive to people with limited knowledge, yet ironically because these companies use proprietary front ends you have little choice but to look to them for support, which is often lacking.
If however you go for a host using the common Cpanel almost any answer is only a google/YT search away.

Yeah, i agree Wynne. 1and1 are difficult to deal with if you need any support. EUKHOST have their servers over here but their support team are in India but are extremely efficient and you can conduct an online chat with any probs and they respond immediately.

...however www.vidahost.com (http://my.vidahost.com/aff.php?aff=046) are excellent ;)

What do these hosting sites actually do
that we can't do ourselves?

host your website's files so that when someone views your website it's there is the simple answer. lots of security, providing the speed, support, more advanced features such as database, php support which is up to date and configured correctly, plus a million more things. would never recommend doing it yourself when it cost £17 per year
