Title: Floor polish as grout sealer

Would emulsion floor polish be any good as a sealer for grout. Is there much difference in the ingredients of the two products.

emulsion polish is water based ! and sits on the surface......solvent seals penatrate the surface and is not
affected by water

I would say no this would not act as a sealer as it would not have the same chemicals in for sealing the grout.

Entirely different products.  Grout sealer in general is a penetrating sealer the molecules penetrate the grout then the transport system that carried it in (Water or Solvent) evaporates and the sealer molecules then bond together ass they cure to form a type of skin sub surface and therefore a seal.  Emulsion is topical and is designed to sit on the surface.  If you used it some of it would penetrate due to the high absorption of grout and would in turn attract dirt quicker and moreover make it stick to the grout.  Why even consider this method when something like Aqua Mix Grout Sealer costs pennies and is designed for the job.

It was considered because the only grout sealer available in the time I needed it was a solvent spray can at £25 for 600 linear meters coverage. i dont think I would get 600l m so would need another can at £25. I have plenty of emulsion polish. Didnt realise I could get aqua mix grout sealer. So I have learned something new, thanks

Fair enough Neal but Aqua Mix also do a same day grout sealer aerosol can for around a £10.
