Title: Unrealistic pricing
Post by: Steve Gunn on April 13, 2011, 05:07:27 pm
Just been to do a job in Gosforth where she had 2 other quotes £585 and £595 for low profile carpeted office,it took us two and a half hours, then Rentokil quoted £318 for flea infestation, now in these times when things are tight how can companies think these prices are fair. Now we all want to earn as much as we can but basing it on how long it took that's nearly £250 an hour.

Client was well impressed as traffic lanes from canteen and entrance came up like new and she had been told by one of the others they would not be able to get them areas clean? I think we all need to be realistic on what we are charging I charged £300+vat

Your hourly rate was a good rate, so the others must be either really inexperienced at pricing and probably at cleaning too (traffic lines) or were just chancers who at the end of the day would have probably put that customer off for life.  :)
If you could have had another similar priced job the same day, wouldn't be bad money would it for 5 hours actual work (10 man hours) :)

The annoying thing is you could have charged £400 and still got the job.
I think its a case of pricing every job, both to secure the work but also get the highest possible price, its so hard sometimes, out of interest how many Sq Mtr was the job mate?

Never measured it based the price on time it would take to do and when I went to quote she moved the goal posts from original office space approx 1100sq ft at a guess

So about 122 sq/yards.
There some around here running truck mounts who would have charged £122 (£1/sq yd) and you'd be lucky to get any commercial work if you go £2 or above.
And they call the North poor? :o
