Don't know about you guys, but in the area of the M25 new emission laws come into effect as of 3rd January 2012, which means i have to get a new van as mine would fail .Just been talking to the guy at the garage and he was saying it would cost in the region of £1500 to sort out so that means i will have to get another van ,as my van is only just about worth that . So now have to look about leasing a new one ,and try and recoup some money for mine .However if you don't get it sorted it will cost £100/day to run it excluding fuel . Absolutely criminal .It's going to effect a helluva lot of businesses.

Or.... you could buy an LPG van? and cash in to cheaper tax and free zone entry.

Cut to the chase
(Introduction of the LEZ is being phased from 4 February 2008 to January 2012 though, so it doesn't affect all large diesel vehicles from day one.
4 February 2008 – only applies to diesel-engined Lorries weighing 12 tonnes and over.
July 2008 – also applies to Lorries over 3.5 tonnes, buses and coaches.
October 2010 – also applies to large vans (over 1.205 tonnes unladen) and minibuses. This will cover large diesel engined vehicles including motor caravans and motorised horseboxes.
It will also affect other specialist vehicles which are derived from lorries and vans, including motorised horse boxes, breakdown and recovery vehicles, refuse collection vehicles, gritters, sweepers, concrete mixers, tippers, removals lorries, fire appliances, ambulances and large hearses (over 2.5 tonnes).
Initial Period of grace
Transport for London (TfL) has allowed a period of grace of 28 days at the start of the scheme. A non-compliant vehicle entering the zone after 4 February will receive a warning letter rather than a Penalty Charge Notice.
Yes I got a letter from above (looks like a photocopy out of reading) probably due to a parking violation in Queens’s road Peckham (burgerking) which I’m contesting one break in a line= a warning. It look like they picked a date out of the air and the other dates are so ambiguous so I’m looking into it big time

Dear Len
Many thanks for your enquiry regarding emission control equipment for the forthcoming phase of the LEZ.
HJS Germany, via ourselves, offer LEZ compliant filters to suit your Vito. Approval has been granted by Transport for London for the HJS Sintered Metal Filter with Active Regeneration, which is a widely proven product across mainland Europe.
The price for the conversion is £2,495.00 plus VAT. This includes installation and certification.
For vehicles under 3.5t gvw, a fuel borne catalyst is required to aid regeneration, as London duty cycles coupled with light vehicles can result in low exhaust temperatures. The fuel borne cat together with heater coils will ensure that successful filter regeneration can take place in all circumstances. Should the filter require cleaning at any point, the on-board warning light will advise the driver. The cleaning is carried out using a pressure washer.
We have installation centres across the South East who will be able to carry out the conversion within one day. Delivery time for this product from the German factory is currently 3 weeks. Our installers are VOSA approved and will be able to carry out the required smoke test on-site. The filters are a modular construction and should it need servicing, cleaning can be carried out by a competent mechanic in the workshop.
I hope this will be of assistance and hope to hear from you again.
Hi L,
Thank you for your enquiry regarding converting your Mercedesvito 112cdi to run on LPG.
Unfortunately we are not able to convert diesel vehicles to LPG at this time. However, there is a product due to be launched onto the market in a few months time that should make it cost efficient to convert diesel engines. We will keep you informed of any developments.
In the meantime however we work closely with a local company who can remap your existing ECU to improve the power output of your engine and reduce fuel consumption, thereby saving you money. The average cost of this is £350 per vehicle including VAT. This should give approximately 5 - 10 more miles to the gallon depending on driving style. This is covered by a 7 day money back guarantee and the system is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle.
If that is something you may be interested in we would like to hear from you.
Regards
Marie
