on saturday i was moving some rocks whilst fencing and i crushed my right thumb. nail off and the tip is broken and now has been operated on and wired. i am going to be off for 2/3 weeks according to doc.
so, to make use of the down time i need sensible suggestions about how i can spend the time productively. any ideas? i'll trickle charge all the batteries, phone custies as they become due but wondered if others have suggestions?
also has anyone else suffered similar injury? how long was the recovery?
and i had a really busy month planned. will cost me about £3000 :(

go knocking

go knocking
with the good hand ;D ;D
-
not sure if you can shove a leaflet in a door 1 handed ???
-
i'm pretty full to be honest. no need to knock.
-
Im pretty sure I would find a way to be able to work with a thumb injury.
Probably wouldn't be quite as fast but I could still get something done.
-
Mate don't risk it my partner did the same run big risk off infection
He nearly lost his thumb .go on holiday ,you can always catch up.
All the best
-
there's no way i can work. can't grip, can't drive, can't get it wet, can't risk infection. can do end of year accounts, advise custies so i don't lose them, rest the wrist strain i had on same hand, research and buy new equipment needed thus getting best price and enjoy a few days off when weather is good rather than when it's pouring like i usually have to.
-
Then just enjoy the weather mate; the customers will still be there in three weeks time; take it easy mate and relax ;D
-
Get a man to do your job. You will pay him the bigger part of the profit. This way you won't miss the customers and the whole sum of the wages. I think this is a good compromise.
-
Mmmh, I don't think it's practical to get someone in to help me, for so many reasons.
-
Drinking hand ?
Hard luck your stuffed for a bit, chill.
-
go knocking
with the good hand ;D ;D
sorry but I had to smile at that!!
-
get the family involved get them knockin doors for ya get the lead and you give them the price. and ring your customers and explain the situation mate.
-
Look at your round, maybe you can re jig, re organise so it works better when you start again,
Are you going to just miss a cycle and inform custies?
Or just start where you left off?

if you were nearer and i wasnt so busy i would have given you a hand,
its a nightmare when you injure yourself in this business, i nearly kneecapped myself the other day
when i was helping my sister move some stuff and this rafter fell on me, (long story) i was limping for half an hour!
on a different subject do you fancy swapping links to your website?
-

-
hi pureclean,
happy to trade links. will speak to the woman who does my site.
cheers
-
Best I can come up with is to bolt/fix a swivel cup to your wrist plaster to take the butt of a pole.
-

You must contact your custies and keep the informed of your progress and they will stay loyal to you as long as they know whats going on. I had a finger pined years ago and did a bit, mind you a thumb is a more needed didget!
Mart
PS I bet you've stopped sucking it!
-
Carl,
Sorry to hear about your predicament.
As said, it's a tough business to be in when you get hurt. If you can, I would say try to rest it as much as possible, and when you are fit again you will be flying.
Best wishes,
John
-
thanks john. it could be worse and there are some upsides. i can do my year-end accounts, gives time to rest a niggling wrist injury in same hand, chance to show good customer service by calling each and every customer, review cashflow in detail. And have a relax! just hope i can get back on 3 may after all these bl&*dy bank holidays.
-
good luck mate
lad who helps me at times, broke his thumb last year and hadabout 6 weeks off, he still moans about it now :)
Hope yours heals quick
-
I broke my thumb 5 weeks ago playing rugby. Wouldn't let them put it in a cast, so is taking longer to heal. Absolute nightmare working for the first two weeks, but just have to harden up! settled down then and is OK now although still not 100%. It didn't really slow me down, just miserable for that first two weeks!

Mine's got a pin in it, put in under a general anaesthetic, plus I tore the nail off. It's strapped to hell with a big aluminium support wrapped all the way round it. No way can I work, nor do I want to. I'll take a hit for 3 weeks or so in the hope that i'll be back by 3 May.
