Unger expensive ones etc but ones I'm using now are very rigid green gardening gloves I bought from Aldi a couple of months ago for £2 a pair. Theyre still intact and my hands don't get black anymore. Job done! Goodbye to getting ripped off!!

but to wear gloves in the summer you'd have white hands tanned arms and white body

I like those cheap gloves with the rubber palms and cotton backs; at about £1 a pair from the local market, I've got loads of 'em.
