My HWE machine developed a leak from one of the brass connectors yesterday. I managed to get the job finished but, by the time I got home and plugged it in to check what the problem was, it was much worse and the machine was basically inoperable.
I had two jobs booked in for today and two tomorrow and it looked like I would have to postpone them, which is never something I like to do as I know how inconvenient it can be for my customers.
However a quick call to Rabby, who many of you will know on this forum, and he let me borrow his backup machine. Operating in the same location as me, we really should be rivals but the opposite is true. He goes out of his way to help and deserves a mention for getting me out of my predicament.
Thanks a million Rab, good Karma my man!

Theres plenty work to go round and building relationships like this makes running a business so much easier. Good bunch of guys down here tend to help each other out and its always handy to have some help on big jobs.
-
I've seen it where rival carpet cleaners are slashing each-others tyres when I worked for a C/C in Cumbria (10 Years ago)
I much prefer the C/C's down here in Sunny Cornwall, we seem to get along and I'm always happy to help others out, even Neil47 and Goron, flippin amateurs ;D ;D ;D
-
Thats right Col where would we be without you! ;D ;D
Cheers Goron
-
You be still pulling a RD around probably... :D
We've had yet another new starter in Helston. You and me might have to hang our wands up and get back on them big ships mate.... That's if there's any ships left of course ;D ;D ;D

Same here there are a few of us in this area and we help each other out.
From large jobs to lending out back up machines..
-
Well said Fraser
I drove past another carpet cleaner in Edinburgh on Wednesday and he looked like he wanted to blow my van up. Like John said, there is plenty of work to go around.

Yeah Col did you know they decommissioned the Fort George? Unbelievable, why didn't the scrap one of the older ones?
Is it Fresh floors or something like that. wonder how many will still be going in 6 months time?
Cheers Goron

I saw a new van in st ives yesterday "Zero drying time" or somethingto that effect
-
I wouldn't have even lasted 6 months if I didn't have the back up of my wife's job and a monthly pension ::)
I think the one that's just started up may have been the one who you spoke to on the phone when you cleaned that house in Helston. He's got an ad in the local paper so I've got one going in as well from next week ;) It isn't FreshFloors, it's someone who hasn't actually got a business name ???
The imaged advert just says "Need your carpets cleaned?" "Ring Jo Bloggs on 011326 563246" ??? I'm quite tempted to get mine done ;D
-
dont forget most carpet cleaners dont even know about the forum.
Its just us few dozen on here ;D

Was it that "chores at work"?? He's a right misrable sod! He's given me dirty looks too when i had a signed van. And i would watch him! I won two jobs (that i know off!) agenst that grease ball and the clients both said that he has called out to clean up after so so carpet cleaner and so so does a crap job << or words to that effect.
Imaging using the name Chores in your business name when your based in Edinburgh! ha ha ha For all of my English comrades chores is a scottish word for stealing lol
-
Makes me sick that kind of thing. I think most decent customers can see through that kind of thing anyway.
Spot on about the business name though but it wasn't him. I've seen his van sitting in Roseburn quite a lot recently so he might actually be quiet at the moment. I've not seen this company in question on here but that doesn't mean they don't lurk in the shadows like some do.

If you want, Colin, I'll come round and do yours!! ;D - I think the new chap is based in Porthleven. (Newer than me that is ;D)
-
had the same myself well it was a case of my carpet tool walking,
Steve knight another local carpet cleaner was only too happy to drop round while i was onsite to loan me his.
I think in general the people in this buisness have a helpful nature.
Its good to know theres people you can turn to and Id hope some day I can return the compliment

You're too expensive for me ;D
I was talking to Barry Muirehead last week and he sends his regards. He's a civvy now having done his back in in a helo stoof.
Hope you're well and keeping busy, how's the 'Scorp' doing?
-
Hi Col..."Scorp' is doing fine but could do with being exercised a bit more than once a week. :(
-
It takes time, I'm in my 3rd year and some weeks are tough. That's why I added oven cleaning to my services but even that can be quiet.
-
I often wondered about doing 'Man and Van' Jobs in my first couple of years of starting up, but you try fitting a Grand Piano in a Vauxhall Combo..... ;D
