I think a lot of it is down to luck.

For example, we picked up our Iceland stores - now being done by their instore cleaners - by being recommended by a domestic customer who works in one of their stores who weren't happy with their window cleaner.

We picked up The Voodoo Lounge Night Club, a seven day a week cleaning contract, because my wife worked with the past owner's wife. The present owner of over ten years kept us on and we're still there now.

We picked up The seven day per week cleaning contract at The Keyham Pub by being recommended by another of the wife's friends who's hubby happens to be the resident DJ.

Lots of it comes down to knowing someone who knows someone, or simply being in the right place at the right time.

Failing that sitting on the phone for hours at a time will get you in the door sometimes; once you're in the rest is up to you ;)

WC you've got commercial, how did you get yours?   In my experience it's the same as domestics, word of mouth, friend who works there etc etc, sometimes they phone for a quote because they either dont have a window cleaner or they are just looking for a new quote to make sure they are not being ripped off, but I doubt very much there is a full proof way of picking up work as MLS said sometimes its just down to being in the right place at the right time.

Same goes for me.

I have quite a few Large Commercial business's now and they have all approached me by seeing me out doing the company next door or I do the house belonging to one of the staff. I have never canvassed a company (Well, thats not strictly true, I have canvassed companies when I started up but just was never successful at it!!  ::))

It just goes to show that if you have a professional approach, Uniformed, Clean sign written van, Friendly to everyone you come across it does go a long way.
