I assume you ask yell for one?  Are you also in yellow pages? the reason I'm asking is that I had a call from yell this morning trying to sell me an advertising package, which included a business card size ad in yellow pages, listing on yell.com and a one page website for £370. It sounds quite a good deal to me but Ive said I'll think about it, I might phone them back tomorrow and ask if they can improve on the price... if you don't ask you don't get!!  ;D  Has anyone else tried successfully to get a better deal out of yell?

If your going to go the yell route which i don't advise personally, please don't take them up on their website they are terrible, really you would do a better job yourself

Why wouldn't you advise going with yell? They always appear high up on internet searches, and lots of people still look for trades people in the yellow pages! I do have my own website, but they also give you a one page website with a link to your main site.

£360 for a one page site is expensive i know you get an ad in the book aswell, but in my opinion those one page sites are nothing more than a gimmick

The main thing I'm thinking of going with them for is the listing on yell.com, and the ad in the yellow pages. I'm not too bothered about the web site, although it is another link to my main site which has go to be a good thing!!

ive got a free listing on yell. And ive just checked and there is also a 1 liner in the yellow pages.
Even so, that package you mentioned with links and box advert does seem a good deal.
Does anyone know how to get a better advertising presence for a similar price?

But if I want to get my ad above my competitors then I have to pay to get a highlighted listing. I've only got to get a couple of decent commercial jobs to make the ad well worth while!!

On the day my free listing came live, i got a call from a management company asking if i could clean a 4 story block of flats for £175 + vat every months.
I still do that job now. It's worth 2.6k a year now and am paid by bacs on the next friday afternoon.
Yell has been good to me. And i've not yet been hassled by them in the nearly 3 years i've had it.

Thats what I'd like to know also. Have you had any luck with your yell listing Mark?

What do you mean Stu?

My business name appears, then at the side there is a link to my website. ;) This only happened after taking a certain action though, it didn't happen right away. ;)

They sent me a letter asking me to contact them to confirm my details. Normally I wouldn't have bothered (& I suspect many don't) but this time I did call them to confirm everything. I knew it would be the hard sell on for the upgraded adverts & it was but I just sat through it & declined at the end. Ever since this a link to my website is displayed at the right hand side along with email & phone number links. ;)

On my local searches 95% of the free listings DON'T have a weblink, even though I know some of them do have websites. ;)

Yes i have groundhog. I've had other work too. That job is hard work, but the best addition to my round.
I'm starting from scratch really, plain white dispatch which i want to get signwritten now. I want to get a website. And also a box like presence on yellow pages for example.
I'm happy with my yell presence and wouldn't have considered paying for it before. But that price you mentioned does seem like a good value for that kind of presence.

Again, if anyone knows how to get the same for less, please say how and where.

If you do go the route of having the 1 page website, you could always set-up a 301 Redirect.

Which means even when they click that link, it will go seamlessly through to your main site?

It's an option.
