I use them for my domain registration and web hosting. Very good service, simple enough to use and no problems. Good prices too, use with confidence :)
-
ohh good to know thanks do you know if they can help promote a current website instead of making a new one with them ??
-
hi just noticed i can transfer my current domain to them think thats defo an option for me because this seo on my own has my head in bits lol cheers. ;)
-
Yep you can just shift your DNS. Should be in the FAQs how to do it, i THINK you need to apply for a domain name transfer from your existing provider and then wait a few days or something.
I'm not an interweb genius at all, luckily have a good friend who is though, he does this stuff for me!
-
Oh you posted whilst i was typing!
-
haha yeah be nice having friend who knew what they were talking about without a huge price tag for advice lol but thanks again jim i will switch over asap ;D
-
If you are using them for hosting you will have a Germany based server. Ideal for local SEO if you live in.... Germany.
-
Explain?
-
We are using them for more than two years and we never had any problem.
Regards
-
With them 3 years or so and again, no problems.
-
Explain?
If you have a choice you are best to have your site hosted on a UK server as this is a ranking factor for local SEO. Many people think 1&1 are UK based but there servers are in Germany.
A lot of people will say they have US hosting and that they are number 1 on Google which is fair enough. If however you are scratching your head wondering why you are poorly ranking this is something to look at, but is usually too late unless you want the hassle of moving.

When did they move to Germany? They were in Slough
-
Their UK offices are in Slough, the data centre is in Germany where the company was originally formed (it has a complicated history of buy-outs etc)

Another piece of useless information >:(
I've got all my websites on 1and1 and i can assure you there's nothing wrong with their rankings.
-
It may help when you are not No1 Neil.
-
for .co.uk domains it makes no difference where the server is, for .com it does
-
Yeah, I used to think that Matt, maybe something has changed since you read it. Obviously it's not a massive factor, especially in carpet cleaning and it may become even more of a factor in the future when you think about it.
-
i still stand by it Wynne i have had hosting both here and in the US and personally don't find any difference, but then its one of those debates that can be argued and counter argued Lol.
I mainly use my hosting account in the US as i can host as many sites as like for a very good price which works well for me.
-
I like HG too. :)
All I did was set up two sites, same content same everything .co.uk and put on a UK and US host, easy to test. Whilst it's way down the list of factors currently, it may be a bigger factor in the future looking at Gs general direction with local.
-
lol yep HG are good and the customer service is much better than 1&1.
Intresting test, and what you say about how Gs direction with local may well change my opinion in the future, not 100% sure though G actually know what direction they are taking, certainly don't think much about the new +1 feature.
-
They need a Zuckerberg hit squad. 8)

Dave,
Forgive me if I have misunderstood this but are you expecting 1 & 1 to promote your sites for you?
I used to be with them but I do not remember them doing this. They have a couple of free guides but it's pretty basic stuff.
I moved to HG because I use Wordpress a lot and 1 & 1 did not use C-Panel at that time.
-
yeah gary thats correct i have just emailed them the same ques hopefully they also promote current websites. not sure who HG is but am guessing a similar thing just 1-1 have an offer on in the link i put up, 6 months free but am not quite sure how they go about promoting there sites if at all this hosting thing all new to me lol :-\
-
HG = HostGator.com
I left 1 & 1 because they did not have C-Panel which makes it really easy to install Wordpress. I did not have a problem with the hosting itself.
-
ohh reet cheers bud il give them a look over while waiting for a reply from 1-1 :)
-
As long as you have a .co.uk domain it doesnt matter where your site is hosted.
If you are .com you will run into issues
-
yeah warren its www.clcarpetcleaning.co.uk cheers ;)
-
I have .com 's on american servers and have no issues with rankings. I also have .co.uk s on uk servers with lower rankings.
There are alot of factors to ranking and whilst this may be one there are ways of boosting a .com on an american servier. I use several ip 's in different part of the world and if you put the effort into seo then it will boost rankings.................
