Laura Ashley and her awkward rugs ...
Anyone have a method for cleaning these ?...
The wand makes no vacuum contact . I was on my hands and knees cleaning with handtool brush and prespray today ...not ideal .
I could imagine brushing some foam shampoo or something into it ... but you might never get it extracted properly ...
Thankfully it wasn't too bad dirt wise ... but i did spend ages doing a similar one lately .

Dont touch em with a barge pole. Pain in the bum and you'll never get all the grit out or clean it properly.

Choose a hot sunny morning
I hang them over a 5 bar gate at the side of the house , rake them , for a long time which removes grit, bits,dog hair and small children, I then mix up some prespray and heavily spray the rug , then brush in thoroughly with a hand brush , rinse off with a hose , extract with machine using cuff only , no tool . rake again , leave to dry out.

Take it away.
Place over garden fence.
Beat it.
Hose it.
Apply suitable pre spray.
Light scrub.
Hose rinse off
Dry.
All this subject to testing and having the confidence to do it.
Ameded: Jason, great minds think alike and yes you could extract to speed up the drying.

I was talking about in-situ cleaning which I presumed he was doing? Obviously cleaning off site and charging accordingly is a diiferent ball game.
Problem is, charging a premium doesnt happen often with these types of rugs.

The remove , beat ,powerwash, dry method sound good ...
I see a ' rug badger ' demo on youtube ... but who has one of those ...
Often asked to ' try something ' onsite , even though i tell them they are not ideal to clean and i might not get all the grit out ...
Still a cosmetic improvement is often appreciated ...

never do on site and use pressure washer lol bit of shrinking but hey ho

I've now stopped doing the long pile shag type rug.They take twice as long to do as a "normal" rug ,but the customer won't pay twice as much.They are a pain in the bum and lifes to short to be cleaning these ghastly rugs.Why anyone would want one is beyond me ,the dead sheep laying on the floor look is not for me and they should be banned :-X

Take it away.

I use the gate because I can swing it open/shut to clean the other side, I have to clean them early morning so the sun catches it for drying purposes.

I`ve never had a problem cleaning these type of rugs. As long as it looks cleaner and custy is happy. Job done. I would shake it outside, hoover both sides, prespray, aggitate and extract with stair tool. If still wet I might bonnet it with Oreck. I know you don`t get all the dirt out, but like commercial stuff, its the appearence that counts, not how much crud to take out it.

I always explain the limitations of cleaning these on site and I've never had any complaints. Customers don't want to spend a fortune getting these cleaned anyway.

On the couple ive done theres always been quite a bit of sock fluff entwined in them giving the appearance of dirt, always point this out first so it doesnt look like your making excuses after.
Because of this ive never getting a great result on them.

ive never had a problem cleaning these since i got my snail type air mover, i only clean them off site so i can clamp them to the air mover face down and shake all the rubbish out of them then a quick hoovering and its on with the wet clean, pre test, prespray, agitate with pile brush, leave for 20 minits agitate again and rinse, dry using air mover, job done

It is the most average 3 bed 1970's semi you could imagine , though worth 3 times more than my full of character victorian stone end terrace house in yorkshire!

I have one of these rugs to clean tomorrow not looking forward to it I'd love to see custy's face when you get the pressure washer out!!
I think I will beat the sh 1t out of it as its full of sand from the beach.

^^ I wouldn't suggest using a pressure washer in a customers garden. That method is for off site cleaning.
