If you are claiming the petrol as a direct expense then you need to keep every receipt. You do not have to record your milage as far as I'm aware.

non vat reg can claim mileage allowance aswell as fuel. vat paying companies claim back the vat on fuel which is normally more than claiming back mileage allowance.

If you are not VAT registered, you can only claim one or the other, you carnt claim both.

i emailed hmrc and they came back to me and stated you can claim from home to each job as you are not working at a fixed address (ie an office or shop)! works great for me as i do 60-70 miles a day. no need to keep receipts i just keep a fuel log of the miles i do each day next to my earnings on spreadsheet.
also be aware if you are claiming at 40p per mile for first 10,000 and then 25 per for miles over that you can't claim any other vehicle costs.
is it true its going up to 45p per mile, about bloody time the way fuel has shot up
no

if your claiming milage allowance there is no need to worry about other motor expenses as you get far more at 40p a mile accountant put down £5,050 for motoring costs last year at 200 mile a week
