Title: Police talk scam !
Post by: wpclean on April 01, 2011, 10:08:16 am
Just got a phone call from a  man claiming to represent the local police force, asking me if I wanted to buy an advertising space in a magazine called " police talk " for a fee !

When I asked for any prices and details to be mailed to me, he said he could not and the deal had to be done over the phone !!!

Suffice to say I did not take up his offer to be " the only window cleaner in my area to get the add space " and after googling just wanted to warn others that is a scam !

By the way the call was listed as a private number  ::)

Me too but claimed they were producing calenders to go to schools etc i would be the only window cleaner in it promising big circulation and money going to charity, said they will send 20 calenders for me to give to clients etc. so i went ahead (not parted with any money yet) when the calender arrived thats right calender not CALENDERS  there were 2 other windys on it and whats worse there ads were 3 times the size of mine! so phoned the chap saying not happy and not paying he ended up shouting, screaming and swearing down the phone at me. Glad i phoned and didnt just pay the bill....I HATE SCUM LIKE THIS!  >:(

I normally just politely say no to people who ring up and try to sell advertising, but when this fella rang and started saying he was from the police and they were trying to combat " rogue traders " he was reeling me in lol .
When he wanted 200 pounds I asked if he would send me the details etc . . . . . " We need the money now you can pay over the phone or we cant give you the exclusive territory " !

well police have been and taken down the details.

I get the same old scammers every time the new Yellow Pages comes out, they just trawl the adverts looking for mugs to call.
The last one yelled " Well F**k you then" when i said i wasn't interested..... kinda reinforced my gut felling.

I had the same phone call earlier this week, in fact I've had loads of people phoning since I made my website trying to sell me advertising space or saying that they can get me to the top of google searches etc.

They tried that on me 2 years ago.

They started threatening me with legal action if I did not stump up.

I contacted my local police station and asked if they knew anything about it. It was news to them.

I had great fun winding him up when he phoned me again..........
