Title: Algae remover from parasols
Post by: simon w on March 31, 2011, 10:00:22 am
Hi.

One of the restaurants where we clean the windows have two large fabric parasols outside, they are black in colour. We periodically clean these using hot water with a water fed pole, we work a citrus degreaser into the fabric and rinse off to finish.

recently we have noticed that green algae has started to form on the material especially where the seams and stitching are, I'm guessing the algae is growing within the fibres so our cleaning method only cleans it off the surface.

Just wondering if You carpet cleaners may know of a suitable product which can be applied to black fabric which will kill algae and help to prevent it from returning?

I've tried to source a product for this on line, but so far have not had much luck.

Craftex deo-fresh    or Prochem Microsan.

Thanks Craig. I'll do a search on these and see which ones best.

Craig.

Just spoke with a sales rep from Craftex and he recons that the deo-fresh would do a suitable job at killing off the green algae and not damaging the fabric.

My plan now is to clean the parasols same way as usual hot water through a water fed pole, working in a citrus degreaser and rinsing off, then a day or so later dilute the deo- fresh with water and spray the parasols both sides until the surface of the fabric soaks up the deo-fresh.

Do you think this would be the best method and would you recommend treating undiluted for extra effect?

Noticed your site sells the product so will be placing an order with you shortly  :)

Yes that way sounds fine but I,d use the deo fresh instead of/or aswell as The degreaser,   Aswell as once dry. I'd water it down for coverage.
