Clean It Up

I know some on here use an Envirodri and the like for agitation (notably Mr West) but was wondering how they cope and deal with the excess wool that is removed from the carpet in the process. I use the white/gold brushes at present after using the white brushes for a time.
Vaccing up is an extra step but I'm not hugely comfortable sucking up all that damp wool and it is an extra step in the process.
Just wondering how everybody else deals with this issue.

use the softer gold brushes

I am after a set of the gold if anybody has any they want to get rid of....

Probably doesn't help you much but I use the Envirodri with white brushes only and switch to my Sebo duo if I notice any pilling.
-
Cheers Paul
But what do you do with the damp excess wool after you've agitated?
Do you not get any?
Chris
-
Don't usually get any when I switch to the Sebo, but if I do get any I suck it up through the wand during cleaning, I don't bother vacuuming again.
If you have a carpet broom/rake what about brushing it into one pile and picking it up, just a thought :)
-
You mean the lumps of loose pile thats been deep in the carpet and usually comes up dirty looking?
You could rake it together if there is that much.
I just usually go round with a plastic bag.
Its only the rubbish in the carpet thats already loose, I find.

just extract them with the wand as you clean. unless you are talking about the big clump of them that the envirdry dumps off the brushes every now & again... then just pick them up
-
Yes Joe, that's exactly what I mean, the loose pile.
Have been raking it up up til now.
Wasn't really worried about the amount of wool coming out, just worried about putting the damp wool into the vac or the machine.
Mike, I think I must be going a bit too hard as I'm getting quite a few clumps

Damp clumps being sucked into a vac cleaner could mean the hoses get blocked up a bit.
Them being sucked up by the HWE extraction machine (like I do sometimes) does not cause a problem with my Scorpion, dont know if other machines do cause a problem or not.

Had some on a wool rug this morning and even the rake it was coming up as it was full of dog hairs and that was after a really good vac..
-
I use the Envirodri before putting down the prespray and vacuum up the excess wool before agitating.
Any 'bits' that appear after agitation are cleaned up with a dustpan and brush.

Cheers for that Jim - would certainly get most of the fluff out and lift the pile before vaccing.

The cut pile never bothered me over the past 25 years UNTIL YESTERDAY when a vacuum motor on a portable I 'd taken in the house to use belched out smoke just after starting up.
Stripped it to find vacuum moter choked with cut pile / lint from the last job I'd done. I very stupidly and lazily vacuumed excesses of fluff with the extraction machine and have paid the penalty.
If there's a lot of it ....VACUUM IT WITH A VACUUM CLEANER

I put a piece of tights, a cut off from the toe section (the bit where the feet go in to!! not a ladies camle toe! ha ha ha ha ha) over the intake in the waste tank, then cover it with the netting that came with the machine. This acts as a super filter for little bits of crap from going in to the vac motors.
Tip, dont use tan coloured tights! lol

Darn Robert, I hope I didn't jinx you by raising the subject - 25 years trouble free then bang.
Thinking about the issue for a moment, as good as they are for agitation, CRB macines are made primarily for agitating your sponges of choice and then vaccing them up so vaccing would be the sensible option.

Be careful vaccing with a dry vac. The damp fibres will eventually rot the vanes in the vac unit. As lond as there is water going up the pipe with the crud it should settle out in the tank- It does in mine and I use the white brushes on EOTs.

If you want to dry vac with a HWE machine, I think there is an adaptor that goes inline you can buy
-
Use a filterbox in the vac hose, I think Restormate sell them.
