thats rubbish! a contract can be verbal obviously it would be harder to fight in court though. Even a contract of employment can legally be verbal but don't recommend that

Its probably more aimed at commercial clients but don't see what harm a letter before action could do

I'm sure you can do it for domestic,i think the letter would scare most people to pay,it costs £105 to take them to court.for £3 it's got to be worth a try,we have a few domestic that will be getting a letter.just google Harvey Ingram

Might be worth writing a letter up yourself first, telling them that if they do not pay in x amount of days then you will pass debt onto said debt collection agency who will charge £40 plus 8%. Might get them to pay up and also it would warn them of the extra £40+ charge coming their way. I have a few i would love to send this to.

You will find soon as you proceed with court proceedings they get the details in the post and they always pay up before court.. silly because they end up paying more!! ive done it around 3/4 times now.

i have even on a domestic who owed me £33.00 a doctor! soon as the court proceedings started he paid up a total of about £105 quid lol

I had a Housing association owed me nearly £200 who never paid, after sending them loads of letters and getting all the promises, i gave up in the end when they told me to "prove" that i had cleaned them.

No he didn't but i never went back.. i suppose if i did turn up again he would tell me where to go but so what? either walk away from £33.00 and never get it or do court proceedings and get your money and never go back  ::) either way your not going to return to a customer trying it on not to pay you so no loss. Actually what happened was the cheque bounced in the bank so he would't have a leg to stand on anyway

He was a doctor for god sake no one should get away with not paying someone for work done because lets face it if he received no wages at the end of the month he would be playing hell to his employers!
