Next question...
Currently I use a water softener in my van. I've been told by Prochem that this is not necessary and instead I should descale my t/m from time to time. But how do I do this ie what do I connect/disconnect etc etc. I'm in the south west so maybe there is someone else from the same area that has experienced and practiced this???

Prochem sell a de scaler,it is a straight forward job,just follow instructions on bottle,however i would advise flushing through for longer than it states on the instructions to be sure all acid is flushed out.

my filters in the truckmount itself were blocked with limescale as were the filters in the wand,because of this i de scaled it.
If you dont have this problem then you may not need to,not sure if it is part of the general maintenance.
Because of how easy it is it would be worth doing just in case.

I can't understand why Prochem would give you this advice. I would keep your softener running as this is the best way to keep the system scale free. I have run my Performer for 8 years with a softener and I have had no scale problems. It also cuts yours chemical costs as you are cleaning with soft water. If you are in a hard water area you will regret not using a water softener.

Steve, once a month or as needed, pulsating pump and solution out of wand jet is a good time to descale as it clears chemical build up,if using ms,no chemicals through tm, once a month

How I descale my Blazer.
Poor decaling agent into header tank, start engine, press trigger on wand, wait till you see agent coming through, turn off engine leave for ½ hour, restart engine and do the same again. Then I vac out header tank and let it fill will clean water, remover bypass strainer and orifice re start engine (make sure no one or thing is in the way) to flush out turn off when happy, clean strainer if needed and check orifice for the hole, refit them! Remove wand filter restart engine and flush out solution hose and wand, clean wand filters if needed, refit them, restart engine to check for spray Patten.
Chemical metering system is in the off position if only using MS.
The same above applies if using the Chemical metering system but a small bucket with descaler is needed.
I have always used soft water from my home but have sometime used customers and on big jobs direct feed to no ill effects.
What I have found grit can be a big problem if it blocks the orifice. ;D

Is the descaler expensive? I live in scotland where the water has no such problems, but i figure you could use white vinegar to descale if they are charging an arm and a leg for thier product. Indeed, your acidic fibre and fabric rinse will descale to a certain degree.
After all the scale is a build up of Magnesium and Calcium carbonates. Both of these salts will react with mild acids to give off carbon dioxide and a water soluble salt.
In household descalers they use citric acid, but vinegar does the same job.
I appreciate you guys who have invested a few k in a truckmount would prolly want to use what the manufacturer recommends, but in my (chemistry) experience its a waste of money. lternativeley you could move to the land of the gods, where we have nice water ;)
