Last Saturday I went out doorknocking on an estate with some nice big houses.
Result was I got 3 out of the 5 on this cule de sac. £25 £25 and £24. (also got a few smaller ones as well)
Did 1st cleans Monday this week and one of them asked me to go and do their accountancy office in town - another £25 every 2 months.
Popped into another office across road and asked if they needed a window cleaner but said they had one already however one of the partners (law firm) was in reception said he had a 3 storey house that he needed cleaning on a regular basis so went to see it yesterday ... 17th century Georgian Farmhouse ...... £35 every 2 months.
Another of the big house customers asked me to go and see her daughter on a nearby posh estate as she needed a windie .. end result £14 every month.
So from a few hours door knocking you can see how things spiral.
Not posting this to brag (not my style) but heres the moral .... I have leafleted both estates twice in the last 6 months and had got nowt yet these customers "had been looking for a window cleaner for over 12 months"

I don't doubt it for a moment. I have always had a better response when knocking.
I leafletted a particular newly built road in an area where I work. I did get one response a few months later - an OK job that is no problem. However, someone I know door knocked around there several weeks after I leafletted (we only found out about this later) and picked up four jobs.

excellent post Ian

Top Post! But bear in mind that those leaflets might have "softened them up" so that they subconsciously recognised you when you called and:-
Inferred that you were reliable honest and businesslike in your dealings and not some disorganised chancer who'll steal their garden gnomes.

what next ian are you going to employ
no tried that already but didnt like it ... too much red tape, holiday pay, sick pay, paternity pay, paying when not able to work due to sub zero temps. so will keep growing slowly but surely and look into second van but on a kinda franchise / self employed basis

:) ... known since day 1 doorknocking works as opposed to just leaflet dropping

How many customers you now got, if you don't mind me asking? Have you bought any? Cheers
-
hi hedgehog ... got a full round now .. keeps me busy 5 days a week .. canvassed about 60% and bought the rest
-
Nice one well done. Still building my round (all from door knocking or referrals). Started last April. Going for big push over next 2 months to get it full.

Ive been trying to build up the confidence to go door knocking i did it last year just a few and hated it, but im going to have to do it as ive only picked up 2 new ones from about 800 leaflets.
But i did get some abuse from posting a leaflet not face to face but i heard a bloke sounded like he was drunk about 10 in the morning he shout (I dont want none of youre (f*****g s**t) but it wasn't very brave of him shouting from behind a door, i just think he was disapointed it wasn't his giro arriving.
But back on topic i have a job this week at a small housing estase a but posh about 20 houses about 2 minutes from me, ive leafleted there and got one so i really want to knock there, ive just got to take a deep breath and go for it.

just knock, keep smiling, say thank no matter which way it goes and move on
