Title: Carpet cleaning on a boat!
Post by: james roffey on March 19, 2011, 09:20:23 am: I have a job on a boat next week the carpets are straightforward but he wants me to clean the interior incuding the seating they are white vinyl (leather affect) suppose because they have to be waterproof.
What would be the best way to clean these and with what.

Pure Clean, Powerburst, Ultrapac Renovate, Fabric Restorer or you could try a leather cleaner. It's a bit trial and error so just do a few test patches and see which gets the best result.
You could use a red pad or scrubbing brush (be careful it's not too agressive) and just wipe the dirt off - simples!

you will get great results with citra concentrate, ultrapac renovate, or a spoon full of citrus gel in a 500ml spray bottle mixed with hot water,

Spray on aggitate with a tampico brush ( soft nail brush) in a circle motion

like wax on wax off daniel son ;D towel/ rinse off residue light spray with water dry off.

Post by: John Kelly on March 19, 2011, 06:55:02 pm: Be aware that these can get heavily ingrained with exhaust staining from either the petrol or diesel engines. No matter how hard you try you can't sometimes remove all of it. I know I've tried numerous times. Don't be too aggresive as you can remove the top surface of the vinyl. Tampico brush is best and any high alkaline detergent, wipe down with wet cloth.

I think it depends on the stain. If it is just a dye stain then no problem, you can use an automotive carpet cleaner. If it is grease or something more intense use some "Gojo" first.

Post by: nevil on April 01, 2011, 08:01:06 pm: I did a carpet in a luxury yacht a couple weeks ago it was about one sq metre . Setup was a nightmare so it ended up the best sq m rate I have ever earned. £80. I felt guilty asking for it. Can anyone top £80 per sq m.

In the end it cost me 2000 euro for a rug to cover the stain (500 bucks a sq metre) ... a new carpet for the room was quoted at 25,000. When you do a boat ask for as much as you can because when it goes tits up they will come looking for you!
