As title , this time its a bit closer to home , my own brother took a tumble from the first floor , ladders went away from him whilst over a norrow porch , he landed on the pitched tiles , broke a few as he went , then ripped the guttering down before getting his heels to hit the deck first , before he promptly landed the base of his spine on the blockwork drive .
He is now on a zimmerframe for the next week awaiting further tests , docs said he was lucky his heels hit first or the story would be very different .
Not a dig at ladders in the least ,just another mishap , also my bro is no fool , safest person on a ladder , as he is poop scared of heights .
Get well soon you lucky, lucky bar steward ;D

:'( Speedy recovery
-
Hi,
May he have a speedy recovery.
Please don't call me all the names under the sun, but he looks to be on the heavy side to be on a ladder. I am sure this has a factor on a ladder as a persons movements would be restricted!

i personally think that there will be more to come because alot of us use wfp now and don't use ladders everyday it makes you loose touch with using the ladders and mistakes will happen :-[

i think what happens you get so used to ladders you end up getting too complacent thats when accidents happen it happened to me i would not think twice about running up a ladder until it slipped , (broke my arm )thank god for wfp ,get well soon buddy

Very sorry to hear this. Hope he makes a quick and full recovery.
Interesting that you say he is very careful because he is scared of heights. That may have been a factor in my humble opinion, as I have always believed that if you think you are going to fall, you probably will.
If we have a healthy respect for the use of ladders, we will be fine. It's either when we get complacent, or become scared or 'freeze' we will get into problems. I froze once when overstretching across back on to my ladders from a ledge which was too far away. I got down OK but was shaking afterwards. I never did it again. I am still 100% trad, but have a very healthy respect for my ladders now.

I hope he has a speedy recovery.
Its hearing things like this that make me glad I dont use ladders anymore.
Even the safest people can have bad luck

Thank you all for the kind words. I am a bit(lot!) on the large side which they said at the hospital probably saved me from breaking any bones. It probably didn't help that I was rushing as had loads to do and had worked 18 hours the day before so was still feeling tired. Everything goes in slow motion when you are falling and you feel everything you hit on the way down!
I'm just glad I am here to tell the tale.
I have now learnt my lesson and the ladders are firmly staying on the roof of the van, I use wfp normally and only use ladders on builders cleans which I have now knocked on the head.

i agree with the slow motion bit; there but for the grace of god go i'
i try to use wfp more but am geting work with ladders coming in :-\
and i have to take it on to keep earnings at £550 a day ;D

Im not scared of heights but sometimes im up a ladder and it comes into my head what if the ladder slips then i feel un easy my partner works with me and she quite often stand at the bottom,on thursday the wind was bad and i was just glad to get it done and down.I haven't got a big round but im in the process of changing to WFP as i would preffer my feet on the ground.
Hope your bro recovers ok.

Slow motion , no way ,I fell 10 yrs ago when my ladders slipped, as soon as they went i was on the ground with my trainers lying beside me, the ladder was bent with the impact of me and the ground meeting, I am now wfp.
