Title: Brodex 650 ltr machine
Post by: chez on March 10, 2011, 07:01:04 pm
Hey guys
Spare me your thoughts please.....
Had my machine  exactly 2 years, its a ro 650ltrs tank. no probs in 2 years. Changed pre filter 28 feb 11  and the resin 14th feb 11 yet the water today after going through the ro membrane and resin is dropping in the tank at 27 tds - I flush regularly, but then again Gloucester water is extremely hard ......
So I,m thinking it may be that the RO needs replacing?
any ideas much appreciated
Cheers guys

After 2 years the membranes might need replacing.
Did you disconnect the pipe to the membranes so you could flush your new pre-filters until the water ran clear when you fitted them?

No didnt do that as the manual from brodex doesnt mention to do that..... after the last change which I did the exactly the same, it was fine.... confused really - or membrane gone probably

Check the tds out of ro and before the resin. What was the tds before you resin changed? Filters generally don't make any difference to tds reading.

Cheers luther,
not sure how to test the tds out of ro before the resin with this brodex set up.... the tds before the resin change was 002, like to get 000 every time so as i know every thing is working fine...

Its not your ro. Is there anyway to unplug the di inlet? If not, unsrew the vessel and take a tds reading out of the di inlet pipe.

is it taking longer to fill ?     if so then yes your membraine may need repkacing,   what is your water pressure ?

On the 14th Feb his tds was 002 and now it is 027. An ro won't change that drastically in 3 weeks even if you pump sea water through it.

If your membrane is shot then it would exhaust your resin very rapidly which appears to be whats happening. The resin change you did was probably a sign. 2 years for a membrane seems ample.

Cheers guys....
if the ro is shot and not extracting as it should then there would be more pressure on the resin to extract so would therefore wear out quite quickly... a month?  especially in gloucester as it is 350 or so from the tap - nasty hard water >:(

Which is why you have to check your tds before the resin, then you will know for sure. If its around the 010 mark then its ok

cheers....
I'll give brodex a ring in the morning n see if there is a way to check the water before it enters the resin { they will probably want me to spend money  :P} - good advice, unless there is anyone with a brodex machine thats knows how ..... please! - cheers

No probs. We're all just trying to help to make sure you don't spend £250 when you don't have to.  :)

Don't check the TDS out of the RO straight after starting up.  Leave it a while first as it can be higher when first starting.
