does anybody have any advice on picking up offices/shops etc and how to go about getting them? ive thought about getting the yellow pages out and ringing round businesses, but im thinking most managers dont give you the time of day! any advice? or is it just word of mouth...

dont bother waste your time,just stick to domestics.you more then likely have to wait 30 days for money then they will try find some one cheaper

Jakey they do have the time of the day, just a question of high volume calling and keep going. You may make 20 calls and actually get 6 speaks, rest can be call backs, on holiday, in a meeting - just perserverance. Gather as much information as you can as you go along, email addressses etc, renewal dates, and make sure you keep the campaign going.

Do what lee was going to do, join a networking group usually meet up once a month for breakfast. They are mostly shirt and tie brigade with a few skirts there, these tend to be your first contact in there business

i would never touch it ever, risk of not getting paid doesnt appeal, then a risk of losing it due to others being cheaper then having to wait for your money, haha no thanks, then if you do alot of commercial then theres the risk you neglect your customers and lose them, i prefer to get paid cash or cheque or even if i have to wait its only a few days or hours and domestics appreciate you more. Oh and dont forget the big nationals taking over one day ;D

For the sake of a few quid its worth a try I know other lads from diff trades and they swear by them. A commercial job could lead to a domestic then another. They tend to start about 8am and go on for abt an hr.

Ok people I may persue a few ideas, I think 1 a week would be good if it's a quick clean and good money, therefore losing it wouldn't be a massive deal, so I'll see what happens, my mate does an office once every 4 weeksfor 150 quid and takes him just 2 hours! Thys inside and out, plus cleans both managers houses and 2 other employees there, so it's been a great job for him, but these are few and far between, it seems you need people who run the company to be the sort that insist on having clean windows etc, that way there more likely to appreciate your service, just a shame there isn't many like that!
