i use wfp for window cleaning now but for access and first cleans i use a double 3.5 m pointer im thinking of selling it and getting a triple 2.5 m ladder and a pair of steps as i fell off my ladder this morning only 1.5 meters off the floorand not hurt just scraped my hand but it makes you think about the tools you use, the reason i fell was not the ladders fault it was mine should have used a step ladder :(

For first cleans, don't use a ladder, use a four inch unger scraper (the type with a handle) on the end of a pole for anything stubborn like paint or putty. But generally, first cleans do not need to be laddered. You can also explain t the customer (after you've finished) that it may take a clean or two to get them perfect. I've never had a problem with that.
And for gaining access on flat roofs, I use a short lightweight domestic double ladder from B & Q; probably not the most professional ladder to use - hands up - but it doesn't get used that much.
I know a couple of local guys who don't use ladders at all; and I think I'm going to evolve towards this.

I got a triple 2.5 mtr ladder, trade quality {not diy} and it is a great improvement on the flimsy double I got with the system/van. Very stable. Get some ladder safety devices too.

A small ladder for conservatory roofs, nothing more.
If I can't reach a window without ladders, I don't do it.

same here i dont go up ladders at all any more got some good steps just for the odd conny roof

3.5 metre trade doubles and an 8ft single pointer.
the single pointer comes in handy for reaching over the odd gates to unlock bolts and the trade doubles for the odd flat roof up and over jobs.
always handy to carry ladders IMO.sometimes need them for cleaning conny roofs as well as the odd trad job(very few and far between though!)
