Title: Licence fees in Scotland
Post by: PAIN IN THE GLASS on March 09, 2011, 08:49:16 am
Hi Guys, We know you have to pay a fee for a licence, is it a standard fee or is it a different price depending on the area you live?

glad im not a window cleaner in scotland!you scottish lads have my respect!!

most lousy weather in the whole of the british isles.

usually  cheaper prices for work.

have to pay a stupid licence fee sometimes two or three if you work in other areas!

couple that with tight buggers not paying up it must be harder for you legit window cleaners to make a living than in other parts of the country.

depends on area pain in the glass, mine £180 for 3 years neighbouring councils vary and some do a yearly option, and my council insist on 5 mil public liability

south lanarkshire have seemingly split their council area up so you require a few licences to operate in the one council area

Thanks for your reply's lads, This seams unfair. I would have thought that it would be one flat licence fee not diff prics for different areas.
So how does the application go then? is it just through your councils.
DAZMOND i wouldnt say that they are all tight over the border its just those Aberdonians who have padlocks on there wallets ;D

you fill out a form and send a cheque for the required amount, they send the form to the police to do a background check, if all is well you get your license, if you are not deemed fit to hold the license it is refused and you are down £180 bucks for the privilage

I think its a good idea, it means you have no doleys? and prices stay reasonable if licence came out in england maybe the north would be priced a bit more?

out of interest Whats the fine if you are caught cleaning with no licence? and how who catches you;?

Scotland is a very big place Dazmond. It has three coasts & the weather is different for all of them!

Many parts of Scotland suffer no worse than Manchester, mad for it! ;D

Hmm , dont you think it would be cheaper if it was like england , IE no licence required ? oh by the way i heard Edinburgh centre is quote well priced.

take a look at my 2nd question too, wonder how they enforce it?

they don't on the whole, although the slwcn are pushing hard on councils and police to do their jobs, there is one council enforcement officer in my area and he is also checking taxis and street traders etc. that is an area with approx 60'000 houses

they do hits now and again with the police, 7 were charged in fife last week, and 2 from a national in stirling

I <3 Land Rover.

I hate Land Rover.

In equal measure.

Great in the snow etc. Hard as nails (had mine 8 yrs would have been written off 3 times over if it were a van)

What you getting? Half mine are Series 3 (1980)

Thinking of getting a SWB series 2, just to stick in the garage and tinker with. Apparently they are like tonka trucks when it comes to maintenance, easy peasy. would you agree? plus they look tough i reckon.

So when the police get hold of your form, and do a check is it the usual ten year record they look at or do they go further back

5 years here.

Thinking of getting a SWB series 2, just to stick in the garage and tinker with. Apparently they are like tonka trucks when it comes to maintenance, easy peasy. would you agree? plus they look tough i reckon.

Series 2

Pros- No Tax, easy to work on, excellent off road. Looks tough.

Cons- Very basic, Slow even if you fit a V8 you will tear the gearbox to shreads, upgrade the gearbox and you will need new diffs, upgrade those and its new brakes if you don't want to kill yourself.

P.S apologies for thread hijack.
