Title: chewing gum /block paving
Post by: gwrightson on March 08, 2011, 03:37:44 pm
is their a solution suitable for removal of chewing gum from block paving, with out going down the route of pressure cleaning, i know perhaps scraping could be involved  but the logistics of the clean put the p/w right at the back and they only require actual gum removal.

Not sure if it'll help, but ive used some stuff, it comes in a aerosol can, and it basically hardens the gum. Makes it very easy to just scrape/chip off.

It was a generic brand from the local cleaning supply store near me.

I'm sure your local chem supplier will have something similar.

I don't believe in all them aerosols etc. Crap!

Without pressure washing there this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOrnyXAzbNc

Low pressure steam. Chem injection, brass or steel brush works over the gum whilst steam hits the spot.

Osprey supply 'Chewing Gum Remover' to be injected though. At a cost of about 50 quid for 4 x 5liters, when it's merely a degreaser/detergeant.

I put though mine a caustic based degreaser that costs 2 quid for 5 liters.

Does the job.

pretty impressive, makes me think about using my t/m as it will produce hotter than a normal pressure washer,

so i guess an attachment for my lance may look the best option ,

I've found the aerosol worked great for what i need, but i dont know how me effective it would be on 70 pieces.

Steam looks like the way to go.

the aerosol method sound realy "great"
so the next job i get with bits of gum on at the rate of 70+ per sq mtr
must remember to clean a area big enough to put a skip on first
or i could go "green" and get a "recycle bin"

The aerosol chewing gum remover is aimed at carpet cleaners.

Prochem do one called  'chewing gum remover'  ;D that works fine for its intended purpose but I can't imagine walking around a blocked drive with a can of the stuff, not when I haven't got a carpet fibre to worry about.............

Check out Prochems Bazooka. You need to change the brush to a concrete specific one. Once used rinsing with water to clear away. A watering can is all they use with one at a local school.
