Just wondered how much everyone pays for an actual mot. Is it normally one price for the whole of the UK or does it vary quite a lot?
I'm paying £30 tomorrow to have my van done that's at Formula 1 auto centre. It seems to get cheaper every year around here.
-
I paid £39.50 for the last one. They normally charge £50+ but had a special offer. Quite pleased really. The service, MOT, and a repair set me back £265.
-
If I have a service its another £100 on top plus any parts.
-
i paid the full whack, £50+ . my feeling is that those places doing a m.o.t. discount do it because its a sprat-to-catch-a mackerel , once in they can bump it up by failing your m.o.t. on no end of things. mine failed only on a track rod end which was quite reasonable as my vans 11 years old
-
i get the local garage to take my van for the MOT then they usually fix anything that it fails on.saves me messing about at the garage myself.i thinks its about £55 with the re-test.mines booked in for next monday morning.

those auto centres fail cars and vans on non existing faults. i pay £50+ at a garage i can trust. i`ve always done my own maintenance on my own so i know what my vans going to fail on.
And another point on f1 auto centre i brought a car and the last owner had the timing belt done their, got the receipt and everything. i took the timing covers off to check the condition of the belt and could clearly see it was past its best so done it myself.

i took mine down for mot yesterday cost me £40 but failed on a snapped front spring which is getting fitted tomorrow and getting a free re test friday good job im working a ten min work from my house tomorrow so i can still get a days work in
-
The £39.50 I paid was to my regular garage that does it normally for £50+. They have given me reasonable service for a few years now so I do have some trust in them. They're not the very cheapest but I feel safe that they will do any work properly and that they won't try to rip me off. I'm always happy to pay a bit more for this.

between 35-50 is normal range i find
-
My van cost 54 quid if i remember rightly and passed(55 plate transit). My car gets it done free for as long as i own the vehicle and its done by a test centre totally independant of the garage i bought it from and has passed without a fault for the past 3 years (05 plates passatt)
-
i go to a reliable place and its £54, whenever i have taken cars somewhere new they always fail for some reason.
i had a garage 100yards from my house, car fine when it went in, came out with the exhaust mounts broken off.
went to vauxhall once, failed and they couldnt get the back wheel off there and then to fix a loose handbrake cable. so wanted to book it in for £80ph fix.
you may see a bargain price, but its not worth it, they will try to get your money from you.
-
Although i have never used one as yet, I think the independant test centres have got to be the best places to go. The one that only do mot's. They have nothing to gain by failing your vehicle as they do no do anything else but mot's.
Martin lewis recommends going to a council test station (for their own vehicles) as, again, these have nothing to gain by failing your vehicle for no reason. have a look on http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-mot

took mine to my local peugot dealer - £30 with a free winter check, they even hoovered it out and washed it!!
-
Just Mot'S
All they do is M.O.T no bias no alterer motive, just pass or fail.
Good rates if you book on-line, and discount if you book in advance.
-
I pay £35 for a mot every year and it passes :P
-
Ive taken mine here for last 4 years. Always pass's. £30 notes. Over 200 branches nationwide.

I wouldn't let the monkeys at kwik fit adjust my seat, let alone service it.
-
my local garage where i clean the windows i pay 30 and passes ;D
-
Hiya mate, Wouldn't take my car to Kwik fit because although you got a cheap deal for your mot and service they are known for being rip off merchants for parts etc.
-
Had mine done last week. MOT was £48
Had a full service, 2 new tyres, and rear brakes overhauled.
Total cost came out at £460 odd. Seemed a bit steep, but I wanted it given a good going over, as it was running a bit rough.
Sweet as a nut now. :)

MY LOCAL F1 GARAGE ARE DODGY PIRATES
-
Yeah its like everything else in life mate some good and some bad out there. Youve obviously been ripped off and quite rightly you choose not to go there again. I would be the same mate.
-
Van passed today. Cars going in tomorrow hopefully that will pass too.
-
£27.50 , LOCAL MOT ONLY PLACE , they are major by the book people , wont even book you in unless you had the cambelt done recently , every time i go they say look bud were gonna rev the tits off it for emmissions test are you happy for that !
The only thing i will say is that stangely every year one of my bulbs seems to be duff as soon as i drop it there .

Doubt they would fail it for a 20 p bulb mate.

had m.o.t. today on my astra van passed ok local garage been there 37 years £35.00 pleased with that.
-
I use the local garage & its great, I never get failed for minor faults & can trust them. Pay £50ish
Whenever i have used the large chains, they have always picked up loads of nit-picking faults & ripped me off.
A mate of mines brother worked for one of the chains & they buy large quantities of parts & fail as many or all vehicles to sell those parts.
They even have sales targets, charts & bonuses to push those parts.
