£35 an hour turnover?

The "north of birmingham" point is a good one.

Up north generally lower priced, but if you link that with a lower cost of living then you can earn the "same".

Lower cost of living??

Because we eat potatos and live in old council houses i suppose, and still heat our homes with coal and old furniture

And instead of cars we have bicycles and cartss

What exactly is cheaper??

Nope, not the only example, by far.

Phone a car dealer in Surrey and ask how much for a standard job (like, say, recoding a car key transmitter).  They'll quote twice the price of a dealer in Barnsley.  Try it.

I'll give another example.  Window cleaning prices are lower in the North, as are most services; such as any form of cleaning.

There are hundreds of examples.  Two reasons.  One, property prices are part of fixed costs for most businesses.  Two, there are many more people chasing work in the North than in the South, which means, through the workings of supply and demand, that prices for labour in the North are lower.

The bit about car servicing is true - I try to save servicing until I visit my folks in Sheffield - saves me a fortune.

Vin

It gets cheaper the further north you go. I live in manchester but get the van serviced in Hartlepool when I visit the outlaws. I save about 30%.

Hourly rates - turnover, not profit.

On the glass aim for £30. Divided over a 40 hour week including driving, making water, bookkeeping etc; £20.

But excluding holidays sickness winter etc.

Not to mention the beer! I live in Oxford where the average price for a pint is somewhere between £3.50 and £4. I cry every time Steve McDonald charges £2 ish for a pint in Corrie!
Mind you, it is worth it to see the face on my Best mates Dad when he comes down from Dundee. He kicks up a fuss when he is told how much his round has cost hahaha  ;D
