Title: Electric window not working. Update...
Post by: Klean07 on March 05, 2011, 12:21:40 pm
Does anyone know anything about electric windows on a car or van for that matter.
The drivers window wont work on my megane though the passenger one does. Any ideas?

ive been spending the morning trying to fix that on my focus (same problem) after taken the door panel off its the window regulator thats the problem as motor works etc the wire cable thats on a pully type sytem thats lifts and lowers the window had come loose and wrapped itself around the pully and has mangled up (not that uncommen apparently) if your window motor is working it could be something like that if its not ive been told sometimes they need tapping with a hammer or something and a bit of wd40 gets them going again.

Google it Klean.

There will be a renault owners forum out there & probably with the answer.

We have a nissan car & I've managed to diagnose & fix many a problem through a nissan forum that otherwise would have cost me a fortune at the dealer! ;)

Hi
Firstly, check that the fuses are ok.

I'm not sure where the operating switch is, but if you 'prise' it out you will be able to check if there is current getting to the switch and then that there is current through the switch.  If the switch is in the door and you have current to and through it then you will have to strip the door panel off and see if there is current at the motor. If yes then the problem is motor related. If the switch is on the dash and you have current at and through the switch but not at the motor then you must suspect the fault is a cable break where the cables go through the side pillar and across the 'gap' to the door, as they are the most vulnerable at that point because they flex everytime the door is opened and closed. If there is current at the motor then the problem is something to do with the motor as above.

Re the focus

I had exactly the same problem.  Don't try sorting the steel wires, that I found was a waste of time.

Had to buy whole new unit (regulator they call it)
Ford dealer mega bucks,
I got new one off eBay

Takes an age to fit,sorry!

Try using the switch whilst you are slowly opening and closing the door,

If this works you probably need to look at chaffed wiring

If it's working on one side of the car then swap the easiest parts over first i.e. the switch.  Then whip off the door panel and take a 12v feed from the battery and apply directly to the other components or test with a multimeter to see if there's power going to the unit when the button is pressed.

Or better still join a forum as you'll find loads with the same problems I'm sure.  ;D

Thanks for info lads and lassi's. I haven't tried anything yet except for pricing regulator switch etc. Renault want £285 plus vat!!! Ebay shop £65 also same price at a internet car spares centre. The problem happens quite a lot on Renaults apparantly though last time it happened to me I was still covered by warranty. Don't think I will be taking it to renault somehow though.

if it still under warranty then have it done sooner rather then later mate mines gone on me kangoo aswell thought there was something wrong with it will just replace it some times its best to extend your warranty

Update; I'm still waiting to get it done. But since my last reply I've found out that Renault will pay 75% of any work if the car is less than 7 years old. 25% = £100. Anyway I've booked it in but because part is in high demand I've got to wait untill a new part comes in. 8)

The window on my girlfriends Honda Jazz was playing up. It would open but then not shut.
The dealer said to spray WD40 into the side channels.
I was about to strip the door down but tried what they said and it worked a treat.

Apparently the channels fill with dust and dirt and it jams them

Side channels? Do you mean the gap?
