Title: Faulty WCW Backpack
Post by: www.WashingWindows.co.uk on March 05, 2011, 09:50:43 am
Hi,

We have been using the WCW Backpack with an 18ft WFP for around 6 months. The unit has a 65psi pump, which is more than adequate.

Twice now the variable speed controller has stopped working and reverted to an on / off switch, which is better than it not working at all but it does push our water consumption up by more than double. WCW have replaced the unit on both occasions but I’m concerned that once our 12 month warranty runs out we will be stuck as this component is clearly unreliable.

I’m trying to source a replacement 12v variable speed controller. Has anyone had the same experience and found a solution?

I would expect any replaced part to still be covered mate, if not then ask for a full refund or replacement unit in total.  I'm currently building a backpack and I'm using the Shurflo 100 psi and the varistream controller.  Those two seem to be the best items available and the most reliable (touches wood).

For my complete kit the bill so far is just under £200 will probably end up costing about £250 by the time I've finished messing about with it all.  You could pick up a different controller for about £80 but then you shouldn't have to.

If I were to build my kit in bulk I would guess the total cost to be about £150-180, it might not look pretty at the moment but should out perform any backpack currently available.  I'm told the backpacks don't require much more than a 45psi pump but I like to engineer Victorian style  ;D

I'd think the most important part is the Varistream controller, www.williamsonpumps.co.uk they manufacture them.
