Title: project x first meeting
Post by: Lee Pryor on March 04, 2011, 07:52:27 am
project x is nearly ready to kick off here in surrey and sussex.

this Saturday 25 top level window cleaning companies hand picked by me from across the south east will be coming in their vans and uniforms to our first meeting where I will be presenting the project to them.

remember this is a pilot scheme to test if the idea even works, luckily for them im the only one with my wallet and neck on the line, if successful I intend to scale it up to a national level as fast as possible so watch this space.

we have newspapers coming down to cover the storey which is very exciting, I cant wait to see everyones vans lined up together, keep you eyes out next week for pictures I will post on here.

"The best way to predict the future is to create it"

Now that I do like.  Seriously going to drive me nuts waiting to find out what you're up to  ;D

That's the trouble with good ideas, you're bursting to blab to the world and most of the time its a nightmare trying to research and develop without telling someone what your up to  :)

Enthusing people isn't easy, and if only five or six turn up it's going to feel like a kick in the knackers. If you do get an anyway half decent turn out make sure you make the most of it- lots of video and utube footage- lots of still photo's for future promo's.

The most memorable shot is always the V, a chevron of window cleaners walking meaning fully towards the camera.

Have you got some ideas in your head for this or are you going to wing it?

There are quite a few funny things you can do with twenty five liveried wc's teams.Time to get your thinking cap on.You'll only get one chance at this.

I assume your press release is already done- but what about your inspirational speech to the troops have you thought about that general lee?

he might pull it off- i didn't think ian could do what he did.

If step one is to get twenty five windies to turn up unpaid on a saturday mid-day, then he certainly hasn't chosen the easy route.Logically to get that number some must have to drive a fair way.

Hi Lee,

My van was taken to Peugeot main dealer last night with an electrical fault. (Peugeot Boxer 2008)

The other van is not sign written >:( and we are just building an emergency system to be ready for a job on Monday.
We will have to meet up another day, when you have time.
Absolutely the very best of luck with your project X

i would not want to join the idea for one big reason.

once the company is big enough to do the work received from adverts its self, the hand pick companys would be on their own  ;D ;D and you would end up with a big national residential cleaning company with spending power to advertise on tv  :-[

Title: Re: project x first meeting

The meeting went very well, lots of companies came from as far away as 40 miles! of course some couldnt make it but that was to be expected. We all had lots of fun with the vans and talking shop, got a few pictures.

it was at a pub where they gave us a section set out so I could present the project in full. All in all everyone had a good time and the project is in motion and will start on the first of April.

Oh and I really should say for what must now be the 100 time to those that keep saying its been done before - it has not anywhere by anyone!

Hi lee,
I will be very interested in the photo's. Not just to see if you have fallen flat on your face, but i suppose there is an element of that.I want to see how you approached the idea of multiple vans and firms. If they were all parked together they would block each other out, and from a distance the signing would be unclear as to one trade.

So a very interesting problem in terms of branding in a positive way and with a clear message, with what is hopefully a brilliantly iconic photograph of the group as the answer.I have a few ideas how i would have done this, and maybe the press lads had some input.I trust you slipped one a couple of hundred to snap away like mad.

This was probably your best chance for a mass meet up.As you point out people arent going to be making 40 mile round trips regularly  just to hear a five minute address.

If you didn't get the shot, then you may be looking at photoshop.

we all met for about 3 hours. got a few pics just for fun really, not so much for marketing that has already been taken care of.

needless to say it was a nice afternoon and all the vans lined up was pretty cool, guy from the paper got some good shots. Im going to call them today to see if I can get copies of those too.

Title: Re: project x first meeting

Essentially the window cleaners at the meeting are your customers. so a much as anything this was a focus group meeting.
You got to find out what they wanted, what they expected, and how much they would be prepared to pay for it.

I presume you had a keynote or power point presentation ready for them, and this same presentation should be available to interested parties on the forum.Possibly as a download on your website.

I'm a bit disapointed you didn't take control of the press better- the one paper will probably supply the other with pics and copy- but you really could do with a bit more documentation, of this the birth of your enterprise.

You should have taken video footage too.

If you were running this project for me i think the car would be withdrawn and you would be running round on a push bike for the next few weeks.

I will make sure I get a copy this week as it is not delivered for free now I have moved to Maidenbower/Worth wherever my house is?

Hopefully they will do you proud. Good to see such a positive person trying to make this industry better.

I think i'm more interested in this as an idea than you are lee, your message has be, come and be a part of a great team- a winning team. And the first manifestation of this would be saturdays meeting. That's why you need the pics, the video, and the esprite de corps etc.

The pub car park this year could be benidorm next year. You could be the new Mel Garvey.

Slump i am pleased your very into my idea even though you dont really know what it is. How on earth you can say you are more interested in it than me i dont know? I have put in  nearly £15k of my own money, spent hours and hours on the phone to the companies involved and the list goes on and on.

Its great to be told what I should have done but so far its going very well as it is. I have nearly 30 companies on board that are all very keen to get started.

The first of April was chosen because IMO this is the best day of the year to start any marketing for window cleaning due to the clocks changing to summer time in the last weekend of March.

The companies involved are not all on this forum and the ones that are have been asked to not talk about it publicly at this time. Ones that do will not be included in the project. Its enough to say that I have my reasons
for this at this time.

I did not take my car to the meeting even though I live in the next road from the venue, I went and got one of my vans from my unit 5 miles away and wore my uniform just like everyone else that came.

The problem is that people like Steptoe (Matt Bateman/Rise and Shine, etc, etc) is that he's desperate for this to go wrong, as in his last incarnation he slagged it like mad and (not at all unusually for him) got into a bit of a huff about it.  Success is the lastthing he hopes for.

Its odd as you joined this forum after I fell out with Lee, so how would you know about any disagreement with him,  unless of course you're hiding behind an alterior identity. Either way you've never said anything without critiscism about me, which is odd as we've never spoken together.

Its odd as you joined this forum after I fell out with Lee, so how would you know about any disagreement with him,  unless of course you're hiding behind an alterior identity. Either way you've never said anything without critiscism about me, which is odd as we've never spoken together.

So you did "Fall out with Lee".

Just getting the facts straight.

They'll get a better service by "real" professionals! ;)

What hard year was that then mate? 39,000 worth of extra work since begining of last year? Now you want to earn some extra cash by pretending to flog your cars on CIU? Turns out it's your "Mates" car. You couldn't make this up could you? PMSL

I love this forum  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  Think I'll watch TV for a bit. More believable watching ITV 2 I reckon. ::)

Bought for 96k 2 years ago. I want you mugs to think that I could spend that much on a car becuase I have  small todger
£29,000 ovno I want you mugs to believe I could write that much cash off because I'm a big number in window polishing
Its been a hard year  :-[ I expect you mugs to think that I turn over so much cash each year that I have to sell one of my cars and I crave recognition.

The funny bit is, you trying to identify yourself as successfull like Lee or the other big players.  ;D ;D ;D

He's told us what he's doing, a radio campaign,in just one county to start and vetted w'cers who'll pay for the work this produces. The initial face to face meeting was on saturday in a pub near where he lives. He hoped that 25 firms would attend in vans and uniforms. I can't understand how he expected these people to make the effort of vans and uniforms when he couldn't be bothered to manage a proper photo shoot.

His reply to my earlier comments was that the marketing had been taken care, and he didn't need shots of the team. but if that was the case why couldn't the guys come in normal clothes and vehicles?

Anyway in the photo we've been shown they weren't all in uniform, one was in a suit.In the background there are seven vans, one of them lee's, so it looks like six turned up.

It may seem, from comments by other posters on this thread, that i am livid with jealousy about the project and the car. What interests me is ideas and their execution.

If thats how i am coming across I am sorry for that cozy.
I have just read some of your old posts/comments this may shock you.
I agree with alot of what you say.
I mentioned my mates car to lighten the mood of the Project x post as cars where starting to get mentioned .
I think the ladder monkey comment is the root of our problem.
I  apologise for that.
Been on the ladders all morning on builders cleans and have no problem with trad cleaners.
We are all window cleaners at the end of the day, up ladders or swinging poles around, I have had a good year and hope this coming one can produce the same results.
p.s ITV2 must be bad you where soon back on here! ;)

I didn't count but I would guess that there were 15 there.
Not everyone was in the picture.
I had some pre-scheduled work that morning so couldn't arrive until 1 - after the photo shoot had happened.  I think others arrived after it - but before me.  I also had to go at 2 because I was taking someone to the footie.  I would like to have been there a lot longer but there was a lot of other stuff I had to do.
No, I'm not going to spill the beans either.  It's Lee's story to tell if and when he wishes to.
We bump into each other a fair bit and I first became aware that he was planning something some time ago.  I did promise not to say anything on here and that's how it stays.
I'm sure things will become clearer soon enough.

You know Mister (whoever you are hiding behind your alias), I dont have to attend every time Im invited to an arguement.  You can say what you want about me but I will simply be ignoring your childish comments from now on. You carry on mate.

I hope so, I'm quite intrigued to hear what this is about.  I think for Lee to even have gotten about 15 window cleaners together is quite an achievement in itself.

We know that.  You normally avoid the argument by throwing your toys out of the pram, deleting your account and running away, then slinking back a couple of months later under a new username.

Dave, your sign up date is 5th Feb, which is after Matt did his last disappearing act.  So how do you know all this?  You must've been a member under a different alias prior, or you're someone with a grudge whose hiding behind this name (which is what I suspect the case is) .

At least Matt is honest and says who he is; he's human like the rest of us; but I also suspect you're an underhanded Troll, just looking to try and annoy those you hold a grudge against.

You're not bad at it too!  ;D

But really, we're spoiling Lee's post here, and it seems he's putting a lot of effort into something, so maybe it's better if we keep our childish arguments out of this post; we've a great off-topic site that's good for a heated discussion; maybe you could try there?

Fair point, I'll make this my last word so prevent total hijack.

The first thing I did after signing up was to read through hundreds, probably thousands of back posts so that I could see what was going on and not ask the questions everyone else had asked.

A few things came out.  I read every one of Ian Lancaster's posts and many of Lee's, as they both seemed to be building businesses rather than cleaning windows, which is what I've tried to do.  That was also when I kept coming across Matt/Rise/HS&Son and realised that many of his posts were pointless and that he had a habit of huffing off.  I also read a number of yours and realised that your philosophical outlook is not a million miles from mine.

So, my knowledge might appear to predate my signing up, but for a reason.

Cheers, Dave!

But we're getting a bit bored of the regular company in the off-topic area, so if anyone fancies a fight over there, you'll find there's a few of us ready and waiting for a good argument.  ;D

The normal topics are football, religion (for and against), philosophy, physical or mental illnesses, cars, motorbikes, DIY, moaning about our partners and lots lots more interesting stuff.

Maybe a mod could delete the irrelevant posts?

sorry for the late reply ive had some computer problems.

My god! I love all the speculation and guessing games. You have to admit its alot of fun really. knowone is close at this time.

Its true there were about 15 there out of 25. but when someone says its my weekend to have the kidds the only answer I could give was fair enough. every company that couldnt come is arranging to see me at another time.

The point of the meeting was to run through the project. I asked people to come in vans and uniform as a bit of fun really. Everyone had a good time looking at the different kits and poles.

Look guys, dispite all the negative posts and so on, what im trying to do will benefit us all and our little industry if it works out. If it doesnt only I will have lost money and time, please believe me when I say I have worked very hard for months and spent alot of money.
