Title: 1 van v 2 vans

Hi every one
We are a2 man 2 vans team
Thinking to get rid of one van and work 2 men from one van
Has any one done this if so is it more cost efective and beter long term

Any feedback is very welcome

long term it is better to have 1 man in each van, also you will have a spare if one is off the road to work 2 men in then.

per day per head this way works best for turnover, project that over a year and the extra far outweighs the cost of another van.

so there you go  ;D

So do you reckon for instance where 1 man might do 200 lets say

2 men would only do 300 or similar, as if one man did 200 and 2 did 400

The extra costs would not be beneficial having 2 vans??

So in effect you guys are saying 2 men do less together than apart , as i dont see why that should be true , 2 guys poling would get through double the work ,  no??

I have never tried either so hope you can let me know what you have found??

hi sean i only run my own van but the way i would do it is have 2 men with a larger van for larger propertys and one man for smaller jobs, and fronts.


not every property is suitable for 2 men you may have the odd front here and there you dont need 2 men there.
driving time can be lost too 2 men driving to one location as to 2 different men driving to to different locations

makes sense, i have thought of that, having a van for two guys on big stuff and myself mooching about doing smaller jobs and new clean/ re cleans / checking up etc

But i would of thought if you plan it right 2 guys would do enough to justify one van with 2 guys

PLus any extra by an extra van would have to be considerable to afford the 2nd van anyway!! IE  you have to cover its running costs

  Hi

  In theory you are correct two men should do double one man but lee is right it doesnt seem to work.

  I thinl its down to little variables.

  1. setting up hoses seems to take the same time with two as one so you loose a bit there especially on spread out work where your moving on after each property.

  2. dealing with the customer if one is grabbing the money and keep it friendly with the custie, whats the other doing if he is finishing of  fine but having a fAg theres 5 minutes gone.

  3. travellling this is the killer i think if its 10 mins between each job your loosing 20 mins of actual work this adds up.

  4. if we are talking employees theres the chat factor, on there own they will just get on with it, together they can loose an hour a day chatting.


   I think it works when there is a lot of work together so you can be on several houses from one point, or commercial.  It can come close if you have it so organised it like a military campaign. so every one jumps out the van, knows what kit there using , whos doing what, whos going where. then you reduce the lost time and you can get close to double.

  where it is useful is if you get a young un on board. he can be with an experienced hand so you know work wont get bumped
  you wont hit double then but you shouldnt be paying the trainee the same so can work out.

i started with 2 men ,1 van as i was not getting the work done i decided to get another van, i can see the difference over night  i get alot more done in a day now than i did before and earn more money ,defo the way forward  just make sure you have the work to cover your costs
