its all down to what package you bought the domain with.

Richard. I have looked up the domain and it looks like it was registered for you by a company called "fasthosts" and it's not due to be renewed until 28/5/2012.
If they won't play ball with you, one way around it may be to transfer the domain to another host such as 123-reg. The fee for 123-reg (or indeed most hosts) shouldn't be very much though there may be some exit fee from your current host or a liability to continue paying any monthly fees until end of contract. If you do this, I suggest you copy the source code/pics etc from the current website as they may be lost when transferring - though do ensure that the design company don't own the copyright.
I am astonished that the option of email addresses or email forwarding isn't available.

Can I ask why you want info@ Rich, your better off using the setup you have at the moment which uses a form rather than posting your address as it will get spamed.
Regarding the e-mail setup, if you pay for a hosted service and server then either you administer it all or your paying someone else to do it. If your domain supplier handles your e-mail then you need to contact them if you can't already login and set it up yourself.
It's a mine field old chap ;D Even for a techie sometimes.
If you get double stuck drop me an e-mail and I can always give you a bell and advise (while I'm in a good mood ;D)

Rich, most suppliers of domain names give you a free popmail account with the domain name normally by default you should have a "Catch all account" so for instance you should be able to send whateveryoulike@windowcleandirect.co.uk and it should be redirected to your main e-mail.
That's what the majority of people use especially if they handle all the mail no matter who it's sent to. Just remember that when you reply to a mail you edit the return address to show info@ rather than your personal address.

I've been with them a while and haven't noticed any problems.
Could you post what happened please to help me avoid possible pitfalls?

Yes, that's precisely how I do it myself.

iv spoken to fasthosts and because my website is hosted thru third party namely website designer then on fasthosts all along hes been saying its not up too him to organise and apparently it is and itd take him two mins to organise hes gna be gettin a right earful tmoz when i have my meeting with him not only did i pay 600 last march to revamp me website which im still waiting for hes lying too me
-
Like I said Richy if you need a technical chat before you see him drop me a line.
600 notes for a revamp is a fair bit these days for a site such as yours. There's nowt wrong with your site by the way, its just that he's charging quite a lot for what he's provided, top dollar in fact
He should also have provided you with the full details of the site, lock stock and barrel. Even if he's "maintaining it" for you at a monthly cost. If you don't have all the passwords and details then he can hold you to ransom, sort of.
There are hundreds of places you could have your site hosted professionally for peanuts these day's. You should also have the copyright as it's your site.

Precisely. I would never let someone do a site without allowing me password access to do my own uploads.
