Title: website grader
Post by: Mike Halliday on February 23, 2011, 07:23:15 am
found this site interesting. I scored 77 but when i put in my competitor they only scored 14 but they are still well ranked just under me on the first page of google, so don't know how accurate it is

68 for one site, 53 for the other , most calls by far come from the one with the score of 53 .

Probably because it is inaccurate. It's finding things that are not there and missing things that are. Some of the stuff is irrelevant and some important stuff is not included. Have to say it looks impressive though, especially to small business owners

Still, it will be fun to get their emails every week.

Ive done it twice, first time was 15 then 11.

I'm on the top of page 1 of google so why do I score so low?

I get far too much spam as it is, I'm not giving them my email address

Jim,

You dont need to enter your email address to get your score.  Our site scored 56. Quite chuffed as i designed and built myself.

Think it just compares your site against others it has previously checked -

(a website grade of 79/100 for Www.carpet-cleaning-Liverpool.co.uk means that of the millions of websites that have previously been evaluated, our algorithm has calculated that this site scores higher than 79% of them in terms of its marketing effectiveness)

One of my sites scores 57, the other just 12.

I have no idea how relevant any of that is, I just know they bring in thousands of pounds worth of work each year.

Wayne,

Have a look at Steve's comment below...

and ask yourself whether you would rather have that sort of result (or yours, top of page one) or would you like to score highly on someone's  "test" that's designed to suck you into signing up for ongoing SEO services?

58, including saying how good the blog was (it does not exist)  :D

I then put in one of Mark's (DP) well optimised sites and it got a really low score.

i'd like to see an example of a +90 site to see what makes a good site in their eyes.

I thought it was strange that it said all my photos were too big so would cause loading problems ??? I've never had a problem

Yes, Trey / Rob do some good stuff.

The trouble is that it is so easy to beat yourself up over a poor score. Take Wayne above. Google have decided his is the most relevant for his particular keywords.

63 Intresting.

Alot of these free programs/software are built with traffic generation in mind, a percentage of folk will fill in thier email addresses giving the owner of the site a large database of people to promote various internet marketing/business/webmaster stuff too. And its not classed as spam as you gave over your email address. I do it too on a smaller scale.

Create a free "cool" program, spread the word via forums, twitter, facebook, other social networks, popular blogs etc creating a social "buzz". Internet marketers and webmasters go crazy for this kinda things.

Depending on how old this site is,  the  info that it gives is probably not as important now as google is constantly changing. Specialy recently!!  :o

The 93 site is so repetitive it's hard to see
how people would want to carry on reading
it.
Every 2nd word is Virginia Beach.

I was reading the other day you should design your site 85% for google 15% for the reader, once its ranked then start tweaking it more  towards the reader.

that why Robs site in so repetitive its designed for google not us

I got 91

Thats how I roll

On a serious note, its just for marketing effect, so if you want to increase it, get a blog and contact form on the home page
