Is there a way a sole trader can register their busness name?

Anyone bothered?

Apparently, if your a sole trader, the only way to make sure noone else can use your name is if you trademark it...

Wouldn't know as we are a Ltd company.

YES, in order to protect your "trading name" you could register a dormant limited company with the same name at Companies House, an option worth considering if you want nobody else to set up a limited company with the same name as yours...it does not cost much and could be done quickly and easily over the internet. Peace of mind, especially if you are set upon world domination!  ;) Then the next steps would be protecting your "Trade mark", "copyright" etc. etc. but it costs quite a lot more money and only worth it if you have a very strong brand to protect.
